To think hot tubs are awkward

A friend keeps inviting me round to hers for a meal and evening, I keep making excuses because she wants me to join her and her husband in the hot tub in their garden. I don’t know why but I just find it really awkward. The hot tub is quite small and I just imagine it would feel like sharing a bath with her and her husband😳. I also am not 100% body confident and the thought of wondering around her garden/house in a bikini also makes me cringe (plus it’s really bloody cold at the moment!)…🫣

Am I being unreasonable to feel awkward about this? If I do go is there any hot tub etiquette I should know about?

I note that many posters are rightly concerned with regards to hygiene. However, even if the hot tub had just been sterilised by a team of professional hot tub cleaners I'd still find the idea of going into one abhorrent.

The very notion of being in such close proximity to a couple scantily dressed in their back garden - ewww!

I know it’s just so awkward… especially being such a small hot tub … Like what if I accidentally touch someone underneath the water or something 😳

@Cinderellla are you getting any "sex people" vibes from them? I find it hard to believe they believe their request to be normal - especially given the fact you'd be on their own, it's such a small tub and you've not taken them up on their invitation several times already!

Yes it was quite severe and not a side effect I'd ever imagined. It seems to be quite common when I Google it.

@Cinderellla fair enough - in that case I'd say, "Dinner/drinks sounds good however hot tubs are just not my thing". If she pushes just say you'd feel uncomfortable - and perhaps might realise just how awkward it would be for you!

@sausage767 I think people are missing out on the night sky, while being lovely and cozy and drinking wine and taking.

It's not a bath! More like a sauna experience. I share a sauna with complete strangers so why not with friends? Especially nice when it's cold out too.
You don't need to wear a bikini.

Oh i hate this. No, I don't want to sit in some sort of out-door bath with you and your husband (and whoever else, ) in my bikini, in the UK, in Winter, Thanks!

I live rurally and love going out in winter to observe the night sky. DH and I wrap up and sit n the back garden with drinks. It's bliss.

If I won a top of the range hot tub in a competition I'd sell it. I genuinely wouldn't take one for free. Thankfully DH is the same!

I like my friends husbands but do I fuck want to share a hot tub with any of them! You're not being awkward, it wouldn't be for me either.

It’s fine to not enjoy something, or simply to not want to do something. Lots of people like hot tubs, many don’t. “Thank you, I’d love to come over for dinner, I don’t do hot tubs though. Shall I bring the wine?”

We have a hot tub but no way would I share with any friends me and me only even DH has only been in it once didn’t like it I do it’s lovely read a book glass of wine and peace and quiet
so weird to invite a single friend

If I got in I'd never be able to get back out for fear of freezing in this weather

When I was a teen my friend had a hot tub she invited me round to use. We were in and her Dad joined us . I still get the ick about it now . I can’t imagine my DH ever wanting to sit in a hot tub with our teenagers friends . Avoid it like the plague .
