WWYD re DB SIL Xmas presents

LIGHTHEARTED

I am one of 7 siblings and the easiest going of the bunch. I am the only girl and really don't care what any of them or I do ever, let alone at Xmas.

I had kids first. First Xmas most sibs either just bought the baby a gift or bought us gifts too and we just kind of went along with it all in this spirit as they had kids. So I buy presents for 3 sibs/partners and all nieces and nephews. One of my SIL is very annoying though and I always seem to be positioned to fuck up and be mocked.

So after 10 years of kids only presents I was given a gift in 2020 year, and so was DH. I said "Oh I didn't know we were doing presents" and she scoffed "Really? Why wouldn't we?"

Then last year I got her a gift and she opened it and literally shouted "you've gone mad, mad! we don't do gifts! hahhahahahahha" then "hold on!" and made a big show of disappearing and coming back with an emergency gift type thing - a candle which I thanked her for.

When I expressed confusion to DC and other sibs they all said that DB is a member of an scheme where he is given a lot of freebies by Amazon for reviews, and this is where gifts are sourced from.

She is a PITA at the best of times but means no harm. What do I do this year?

Prize for the funniest gift suggestion 😂

Something you'd like yourself that you can use if she doesn't get presents for you

Ihaveamagicwand · 11/12/2022 20:39

An Amazon gift card!

I have considered making terrible gifts 😂

Another cluster bomb is that DS is 19 this year and doesn't give a sit if he gets any presents, frankly would prefer not to given the terribleness of all the gifts. Their DD is 17 now so I want to instigate a "no gifts after 18 " rule which seems, frankly, ambitious

Tell your kids to get their present faces on. It's great practice for life!

Frapped · 11/12/2022 21:14

Give her back the candle

Are you thinking small but a thoughtful gift or funny ( but still small) ? Or do you want to have “just in case” gift? What kind of budget? Will you do gift for her DH?

I have no idea what his user name is, no doubt scathing reviews, they are hard to please

message her or DB - just checking are we doing adult gifts this year or just for the under 18s, we seemed to get crossed wires last year!

Flat out ignore her. Not gifts, no head space, don't even accept a gift from her. If she gives one, leave it on the side.

It's always great when someone quotes the very long op

unclebuck · 11/12/2022 22:04

When she did get me a gift I got in trouble for eating it immediately 😂 apparently it was poor form. She gave DH a bottle of tequila and we sold it at a car boot sale. She is lucky we didn't start doing shots at 11am on Xmas eve

It's always great when someone makes a completely pointless post.
