I really hate the words ‘teaming’ and ‘pairing’ - as in ‘I am teaming this hat with these gloves’ or ‘She paired the silk blouse with the red skirt’. Just fuck off.

It’s like nails down a blackboard for me 🤣

To share
As in, I've brought us some snacks to share.

Enjoy
As in DH and I enjoy a glass of wine each with dinner.

both sound downright affected.

So what verb do you use if you want to express the notion of 'divide or partition between people'? And if you're expecting it to be a pleasant or agreeable experience, what verb do you use to suggest that you feel that will be the case?

Verv · 19/12/2022 16:27

(You are) Valid.
Oh just do one.

I would just say I bought snacks. Its like when people say "I gave the children some sweets to share". It just sounds odd. Its hard to explain but there's a certain way its said and it just sounds affected, to me. Same with enjoy. "We enjoy the grandchildren". No you don't, you like having the GC come and visit.

So you don't like pudding or making love. I guess that makes you a cheap date for the first part.. and the second part tells us why.😂

Unwell. Sounds overly dramatic.

What happened to ill. We all used to just say ill, not everyone says unwell!

I hate it.

1990s · 20/12/2022 13:13

Now everyone says..

I disike the sort of sentence X shares three children with Y, it makes me think of cannibalism!

I was once told that originally a pudding was hot, sweet was cold and dessert was fruit and nuts. In very grand residences people would dessert the dining table to allow the minions to do the clearing up and go somewhere to have fruit and nuts, hence, dessert. In a National Trust place we visited the diners went up into a room above the gatehouse, fabulous views.

I’m afraid that’s historically and etymologically nonsense, and the correct spelling of ‘desert’ - as in ‘leave’ - would be a clue.

"They share 4 children" grrrrrrr, no, they HAVE 4 children.

Gifting/gifted

A red lip/a black trouser, and the like.

"Off sick" or worse just "she is sick" as in off work. Criiiiiinge

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2022 15:26

"Farewelling / Farewelled" can go down the toilet.

Or 'home made' food sold in a café or pub.

Slightly off topic but this has just reminded me of all the times I've seen signs for "homade food" 😂
