To consider meetings a friend whose DC may have Strep A?

How contagious is it? DF is fine with no symptoms. Her DC is in a class where there have been strep A symptoms and has woken up with a sore throat. We were due to meet today. Not really sure how risky it would be?

I wouldn't

OlympicProcrastinator · 11/12/2022 09:13

That would be a nope from me.

Coolyule · 11/12/2022 09:13

I wouldn’t. Even if not strep, I wouldn’t want my kid to get a sore throat

getmesomewater · 11/12/2022 09:14

Not even if she handed me a million pound. Use your brain. Stay away.

jtaeapa · 11/12/2022 09:14

Why would you take the risk?

ConfusedMumOfThree · 11/12/2022 09:15

Erm...no

Fleabigg · 11/12/2022 09:16

Are you and your children meeting her and her child? Or just the two adults meeting? I’d do the latter but not the former.

Valhalla17 · 11/12/2022 09:16

I wouldn't, even if it's not strep A and is another cold bug...I wouldn't want it! Meet another day when their dc are better

TakeYourFinalPosition · 11/12/2022 09:16

I wouldn’t. I met up with a friend last Sunday who said she hadn’t been feeling well in the morning after we arrived… by Tuesday she had been diagnosed with Strep and was feeling awful. Thursday her 10 month old was admitted to hospital with it; and her husband got it too. He’s still struggling, she’s starting to feel better.

I have no idea how we avoided it, other than that we were across the room from each other due the room layout.

Dotcheck · 11/12/2022 09:16

So, no confirmed cases, and her son has a sore throat?
I probably would meet

Balloonsandroses · 11/12/2022 09:17

Probably wouldn’t meet with the kids but would definitely meet my DF.

MrsMyfanwy · 11/12/2022 09:19

No I wouldn't risk it. Why would you ?

Mindymomo · 11/12/2022 09:19

Personally I wouldn’t, we know a family who all have it, parents and children, they are all pretty rough.

I agree. I know it's not always possible to avoid getting ill but meeting up with friends who are unwell seems like a bad idea. Wait until they're feeling better, it will be much more enjoyable for them and you.

MyBuggyIsOutToGetMe · 11/12/2022 09:25

Don’t worry, we came to the same conclusion all by ourselves! Definitely not going ahead. Too much uncertainty around whether she could be carrying it herself to risk it. It would have been just adults and mainly outside. And of course, it may not be Strep A her DC has. But not worth taking chances in the current environment.

Just feels like the world is a plague pit at the moment!

Very risky. My son has strep A, I've just caught it off him and today have a lovely sandpaper rash and a banging headache. I didn't even get close to him as I have a low immune system and I still caught it. (DH and my DM has been looking after him before anyone thinks he's been neglected!)

Don't do it. It's awful.
