i get a text off friend most evenings telling me to go on Facebook and like her latest post.

Tonight I couldn’t be arsed so sent a text back saying I’m not going on Facebook anymore tonight. She replied “it will take you 2 minutes!”

i ignored her. AIBU to not instantly “like” posts because I’m told to?

That's very weird.

YANBU

Sparklesocks · 10/12/2022 23:37

She sounds incredibly needy.

MLM?

Greenshake · 10/12/2022 23:39

Is this serious? Why would you ever entertain this?

MLM?

No just passive aggressive shite normally intended for certain people to see. Tonight’s for example was a PA post about loving being single (recent breakup, he’s still on her friends list)

One last week was aimed at a colleague

I wouldn't mind as a one off. Say if someone posted a photo of their baby and no one replied or liked it and they were feeling a bit sad about it. I'd be happy for them to ask me to like it and I'd comment to bump it up.
Every night though? No

WednesdayFridayAdams · 10/12/2022 23:42

send her this

But YANBU. I quit FB as I constantly felt I had to like peoples posts, I felt like I was on there 5 times a day just liking everyone’s posts. I set everything to private, made it so no one could comment on my page and stopped going on. It felt amazing to stop. I’ve only kept the account because I used it as a photo storage in the early days and no longer have the pictures anywhere else.

i admit I sometimes make dh "like" my latest fb posts because the way the algorithms work an unliked post may not be shown on anyone's timeline for days. an early click gets it seen so if I am asking a question or publicising something with a short timescale a click can really help. but I wouldn't dream of asking anyone other than him and certainly not someone who wouldn't otherwise be on fb.

maybe suggest she pays for a bot service to boost her social media presence.

Oh I used to have a friend that did this, it was so annoying! It would just be random stuff. I would have liked it anyway once I saw it on my feed but being told to like it would really annoy me!

she’d also hijack my posts to talk about random stuff and this was back in the day before you could reply to individual comments so it would kill any potential thread because it would have been wedged in between her wittering on. Obviously this was a long time ago when I was a lot younger so it all seemed more important back then!

Just like it.

It will take a few seconds of your time

Icanflyhigh · 10/12/2022 23:45

butterfliedtwo · 10/12/2022 23:47

I can't believe adults behave like this.

I can't believe adults behave like this.

It’s utterly puerile isn’t it?

Facebook people drive me nuts to be honest. I got out of that nonsense years ago and never looked back. A couple of people would constantly tag me in stuff and it would drive me mental.

I hate the fact that WhatsApp and Instagram belong to FB/Meta nonsense, because I'd love to be completely free of that hideous company. It's virtually impossible though because so many people are dependent on them for communication. I miss the days of texting and reading forum boards/newsgroups.

Is she 14?
