Wireless Headphones - are Beats really that good?

I fancy some wireless headphones, but as I haven't bought any headphones in donkey's years I don't know what I need. There seem to be loads out there around £20-30 ish, and then things like Beats at £200+. I mean, there must be a difference, but I can't tell if it's really worth it to get the fancy ones? What is actually the difference? Ideally I'd like something light and comfy, to listen to stuff while I walk. Bonus if they're pink or gold, but they don't have to be. Oh, and they need to be compatible with Android.

Are things like beats really 10 times better than the cheap ones?

I haven’t used cheap ones but love my beats. I don’t have the noise cancelling ones but don’t feel they’re necessary for me. The things I love about them are:
They fit my tiny head comfortably
The charge lasts forever (I use them in the gym 3/4 times a week and only have to charge them every few months)
They have a long range, I can hang my jacket on the coat hook with my phone in and they don’t lose connection whilst I’m moving around the gym.

No tried the cheap ones but can’t fault the beats in any way. Great sound, stay charged, good noise control (I can mow the lawn happily listening to music).

OOoh. That does sound good.

Try as many as you can. Beats for me are too bass biased and designed for music I don’t listen to much off. I stick with AKG but you may find that feels lacking in lower end depending what you are used to.

That said if going from a £20 to a £200 budget anything should sound noticeably better.

I have the Samsung ones, they are excellent, there are newer ones & if I needed them I would buySamsung again.

We have over ear Bose noise cancelling headphones which are comfortable to wear - have worn them on long haul flights a lot. Definitely much more comfortable than the cheaper ones we used to have.

Dh now has over ear Apple ones which he says are really good.

Dd and I both have apple in ear AirPods as well but not the noise cancelling type.

Beats are not as bad as widely stated but are expensive for what you're getting imo.

AKG, beyer, Sony all make better headphones

ShinyMe · 10/12/2022 16:45

I think what it boils down to is that I don't know what I want! I'm not 'used to' anything because I don't really use headphones currently.

I use the ones that came with my phone, in ear bud things, and I rarely use them because they're not comfy. I tend to just listen on my phone loudspeaker if I'm alone, or go without. I suppose I need to go and try some.
I do listen to music but would also be listening to audiobooks.

Beats are ok but they were/are on trend. Apple paid 2 billion dollars plus for the rights so they want their money back.

Oysterbabe · 10/12/2022 17:07

Mine are AKG and I love them. A good midprice option.

I really like Samsung - have had Samsung phones for ages and really like them, so I'd be up for this. I may be searching wrong though, I can't find any headphones, only the little in-ear things. I'm old, maybe I'm getting the terminology wrong! I want the kind with a band over the top of the head. I'll search again...

These are the ones I have. They're fab and the battery life is amazing. I have weeks between charges.

I would get a pair of bone conductor ones for out and about. You can hear the music or whatever you’re listening to but also what’s going on around you, other people, traffic etc. I find them great for having awareness and felt vulnerable with normal headphones. . You can get cheap ones on amazon to give them a go.
