To ask if there are any decent non alcoholic wines?

I've tried a few and just not found anything nice. I want something that I can drink after I've had a glass of the real stuff but don't want a hangover the next day. Don't want more than one or two glasses of the real stuff and hate switching to diet coke or water after.

I had high hopes of the Naughty bottle at £9.00 but after one glass it was just way too sweet.

Any suggestions?!

I agree that AF beer/cider is a better bet. I've tried most AF wines and they are basically fancy grape juice or lemonade type drinks. I moved on to fancy mixers/fresh juices to make mocktails. You need to start on them and finish with a alcohol drink.

This is the best AF wine I've found, if it's cold from the fridge it's very pleasant and not too sweet: www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/torres-natureo-muscat-de-alcoholised-wine/554951-78446-78447

Rose fizzero from m&s is lovely. It is sparkling tho, I think still wine needs alcohol to make it drinkable!

I drink ginger ale rather than overpriced sweet fake wine.

Or tonic with a tiny splash of angostura bitters.

Teetotal for years and honestly… no.

My advice is to focus on finding a non-alcoholic drink you like the taste of and enjoy drinking, rather than searching for something that tastes like wine. You won’t find it and you’ll just get frustrated.

If it must be ‘wine’ then the fizzy stuff is the best option. I agree with those who suggested non-alcoholic beer, ‘gin’ and bitter drinks as the best direct substitutes for their alcoholic counterparts.

I do drink all of the above but nowadays I actually prefer the ‘grown up’ soft drink type drinks that aren’t directly copying alcoholic drinks. Kombucha and shrubs are nice. I drink a lot of seltzer (flavoured fizzy water that doesn’t have any sugar or sweeteners, just a hint of fruitiness). Drinks like Nix’n’Kix which have a touch of chilli in them are also good for giving you a bit of a ‘kick’ without alcohol. And it might be psychosomatic but I’ve had the Trip CBD drinks a couple of times and they do seem to have a relaxing affect!

Best I've found is Oddbird, particularly the sparkling

Yes, I second this one! The sparkling rose is really nice too!

Iceyiceybaby · 11/12/2022 09:04

Just buy some fizzy juice or if you feel fancy some schloer this alcohol free is nonsense means splashing out £15 on a bottle of pop.

ShyMaryEllen · 11/12/2022 09:22

A lot of AF wine is sold as 'dealcoholised wine' rather than 'dealcoholised chardonnay/pinot grigio' or whatever, which I think is why it can taste different from one bottle to another. I guess they just take the alcohol out of whatever they have a glut of.

I'm another who wishes someone would get it right. I don't want to drink squash or pop - I'm not 6 - but finding a decent 'adult' drink with no alcohol is an uphill climb. I tend to stick to fizzy ones, as they are nearer to the real thing as fizzy wine doesn't taste as 'winey' as flat anyway.

I've just had a look at the reviews and this gem was among them 🙄😄It can't be real surely!?

"Crumbly wine - disappointed
Bought this for a huge family event last week. We are a family of non alcoholics. We were expecting 700-800 family members so bought 1000 bottles accordingly - not exaggerating. First we went to our local Waitrose, but they only had about 10 in stock! Very disappointed, one employee I spoke to seemed to expect me to drive 10 minutes to a Waitrose down the road!! 10 minutes! As if I had that to spare with such a big event in a weeks time. Eventually, after visiting 3 different Waitrose’s I was told to place an order online for the remaining 860 bottles. I collected them one day prior to my event with no issues, however this was cutting it fine. At the event, I got the opinion of a few hundred of my family members and all were extremely disappointed with the texture of the drink, too thick for my liking, and this was a popular opinion. Overall it was a huge embarrassment to serve this as one of 3 main drinks at my event, I was thoroughly blushing by the end of it! Do not recommend. I am extremely outraged and will not be purchasing again"

The Noughty rose Prosecco is good…except I don’t like rose wine!

I haven’t found anything else worth drinking. Always too sweet. I’ve even tried various 0% mulled wines lately and they are all shit.

I don’t rate any of the Seedlip type drinks either, or the 9% gin. They’re all just so…bland.

0% beers are largely very good, though. If I’m at a boozy event I usually have a couple of these.

@Brokendaughter the F&M tea is made by the Copenhagen guys, sometimes they do an offer on it so I stock up then as I'm far from London & don't often find the regular Copenhagen one with money off. Don't get me wrong, happy to splash out but at that point it's not something I'd drink every weekend.

@nalabae it's finding something that's not sickly that can be the problem, I also drink ribena but would like something more sophisticated at times. Caught myself drinking alc free cider once and had to laugh at myself... surely it's just appletiser?!

Thank you, I must look them up.

I'm far from London too, so it's buy this sort of thing online or back to my trusty cup of coffee, which looks odd when people want to toast something.

Janieread · 11/12/2022 14:54

The nexba elderflower kombucha is my preferred alcohol free drink. Sainsburys have it.

Munchyseeds2 · 11/12/2022 15:21

We like the REAL Royal flush or Dry Dragon.
They are made from tea and are sparkling.
Sold in waitrose and sainsburys currently

TeabagsGalore · 11/12/2022 20:07

The Lidl own brand non-alcoholic mulled wine was really nice, very light and fruity.
