To ask if there are any decent non alcoholic wines?

I've tried a few and just not found anything nice. I want something that I can drink after I've had a glass of the real stuff but don't want a hangover the next day. Don't want more than one or two glasses of the real stuff and hate switching to diet coke or water after.

I had high hopes of the Naughty bottle at £9.00 but after one glass it was just way too sweet.

Any suggestions?!

M&s own brand sparkling rose is nice.

Lamentations · 10/12/2022 18:00

Belle & Co do lovely fizz but I agree that 'flat' wine isn't so good. Belvoir Farm do a nice juniper and tonic 'J&T'.

Lampzade · 10/12/2022 18:15

Sainsburys have a nice non alcoholic sparking wine. I have forgotten the name though

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 11/12/2022 00:21

Copenhagen Sparkling Tea is great but be careful as not all are 0% @JustAnotherSod I think the Vinter one is 5%, they are expensive but delicious and feel like something special. I also find kombucha to be good with food pairing or an alternative to alc free beer. Royal Flush, Leftfield and the River Cottage ones are my favourites.

Discovered that if you start a bottle of the Natureo red, forget about it for a couple of weeks and then come back to it there's a porty-ness to it so will try to remember that for the Christmas cheese!

Feragaia is another grown up alternative, very savoury and you only need a small measure with tonic, ginger ale etc. Finding the drinks that are happy to be their own thing rather than gin, wine or rum alternative to be best - apart from the beers of which there are some excellent ones.

Brokendaughter · 11/12/2022 00:56

Fortnums do a sparkling tea which is not awful, but I tend to just stick to drinking coffee or some other drink that is nothing to do with alcohol.
They do a white & a rose version that are 0%, but it's about £18 a bottle.

I get the sparkling tea for rare occasions when everyone else will be drinking champagne or whatever & it fits in better than my giant disney mug of coffee.

Pentire do non alcoholic spirits, but they are fairly pricey.

I don't drink, so it's 0% or nothing.

HeddaGarbled · 11/12/2022 01:08

No, they’ve all got this weird unpleasant aftertaste.

nalabae · 11/12/2022 04:52

What’s the point? Drunk ribenna

AuntieMarys · 11/12/2022 05:06

No, is the short answer

ExcaliburBaby · 11/12/2022 05:18

I like Nosecco but the best I’ve found is the Co-op’s low alcohol white and rose. 0.5% (so works out at 0.4 units for the whole bottle). Really nice and only £3ish for the bottle. I tend to split over a couple of nights when I fancy a glass!

Merrow · 11/12/2022 05:24

Eins Zwei Zero is the best I've found. I prefer the sparkling version, and I'll be having it at Christmas. It's not got the sweetness or weird after taste that most fake wine has.

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 11/12/2022 06:14

@Brokendaughter the F&M tea is made by the Copenhagen guys, sometimes they do an offer on it so I stock up then as I'm far from London & don't often find the regular Copenhagen one with money off. Don't get me wrong, happy to splash out but at that point it's not something I'd drink every weekend.

@nalabae it's finding something that's not sickly that can be the problem, I also drink ribena but would like something more sophisticated at times. Caught myself drinking alc free cider once and had to laugh at myself... surely it's just appletiser?!

notanothertakeaway · 11/12/2022 07:22

Freixenet 0%

MandyMotherOfBrian · 11/12/2022 07:32

Wild Idol is the only one I e ever tried that even comes close to tasting like wine. But it’s £30 a bottle.
As alternatives, Jukes Cordialities are excellent though also expensive.
Three Spirit are good and slightly better priced.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 11/12/2022 07:38

JustAnotherSod · 10/12/2022 17:27

I would recommend Jukes Cordialities - we had the no 6 and no 1 at a fancy restaurant earlier this year and really enjoyed them - complex and deep flavours and really worked well with a meal.

For a bit of sparkling fizz I'd recommend Copenhagen Sparkling Tea - either the Jasmine or the Pink are lovely, although we're going to try the new one Vinter this year.

I spent an absolute fortune on these after reading about them on here. I found them absolutely vile and the thought of them is turning my stomach. To me they were vinegar and sugar with an after taste.

HowSadSteps · 11/12/2022 07:54

No - don’t waste your money OP.

For rose wine try sugar free cherryade, fizzy water with unsweetened grapefruit juice for NZ Sauvignon Blanc, and sugar free Ribena with lemon juice for Merlot.

WendyWagon · 11/12/2022 08:04

I am a big fan of Gordon's AF. Add tonic and fab lemons. I didn't drink gin at all before January 8th this year. I have up the booze due to health reasons. I also recommend the pre mixed cans in Marks and Spencer, £1.50.
Nozeco is great but sweet, the Asda sparkling sav blanc is better.

I thought somebody had mentioned Noughty, but now I can't find the post to quote. I heard the founder on Radio 4's Gap Finders, and it sounded as though she understands the problem of making good alcohol-free wines, and she is aiming to make products that don't have the problems some people mentioned here.

The founder sounded very passionate about not just good alcohol-free wines but good wines in general, with limited use of junk ingredients and transparent labelling. On the programme, they discussed how she has studied and made champagne, not only genuine in that it was made in the French region but also because it was made with the one or two permitted grape varieties. I think that was it, anyway! It sounded as though it was a massive accomishment, so I think for anybody looking for good alcohol-free wine Noughty is probably a company to try.

It was you, OP! 🤣 Okay, so you have already tried them.

flowerycurtain · 11/12/2022 08:18

@uhOhOP it was me!! I too heard that but on Radio 4 and it really inspired me to think about alcohol freee drinks. She really impressed and I was so looking forwards to trying it. Went to Waitrose and it had sold out, this happened a few times so my hopes got even higher. Then I tasted a bottle. First glass was nice then it got sweeter and sweeter and was such a disappointment! It's an ok alternative to champagne and would make you feel like fitting in a bit more. I think it was the disappointment that frustrated me as much as anything!!!

I've struggled with af wine but love the tanqueray 0% gin

LactoseTheIntolerant · 11/12/2022 08:28

Yes you need to check out drydrinker.com it has a massive selection of af wines that you won't find in a supermarket. The best, imo, is sinzero particularly the sparkling one it really does taste like champagne. I haven't drunk actual alcoholic wine for 4 years so I'm used to it, I think if your changing between the 2 the non alcoholic one is always going to taste odd because it's missing the taste of alcohol!

PearlclutchersInc · 11/12/2022 08:28

IntentionalError · 10/12/2022 16:09

I haven’t tried any non-alcoholic wines that I would want to drink again, but non-alcoholic beers have improved enormously. Brewdog Punk AF & Nanny State, Erdinger Alkoholfrei & Adnams Ghost Ship are all perfectly drinkable.

Adnams Ghost Ship is amazingly good. It's a permanent fixture in our fridge now.

Notjustanymum · 11/12/2022 08:30

Nozecco (not Nosecco - different brand) seem to have cracked it for sparkling - and at £4.00 a bottle (£3.50 on offer at Sainsbury’s currently) it’s not ridiculously expensive either…

SailorGeri · 11/12/2022 08:30

I don't drink and I've really struggled to find a good wine replacement, but I have found a lovely bottle of rose fizz. It's called Noughty by Thomson and Scott. It's not sweet at all and very close to the real thing. It's the best alcohol free alternative I've found.

Merrow · 11/12/2022 08:37

I've been really surprised by alcohol free Guinness too. Most of the good alcohol free beers are lager or IPA, which I'm not a fan of.
