AIBU to rearrange midwife appointment?

Unfortunately, I’ve had to have more time off than anticipated this year. I am pregnant (8 weeks) and was due to see my midwife for the booking in appointment next week. We are supposed to give a form to our managers to sign for planned absence, and this must be done no later than two weeks in advance. Unfortunately I wasn’t in on Monday so have missed the ‘deadline’ as it were.

So quick question - I don’t remember covering anything vital in the first one, although it was during covid and so over the phone. The main concern is delaying the midwife appointment could delay my 12 week scan - does anyone know if this is the case? Sorry for shameless abuse of AIBU.

And even if they let me, it does mark your card rather - hence me trying to avoid problems

that since I did not give the required notice and follow the correct procedure my request for time off will be denied - this is what they say. It is not correct, of course, but they say it.

What I’m asking is if delaying the booking in appointment with midwife delays the first scan. - yes, this was the subject of the thread

Thanks - will have to argue my case, then. - so I conclude I will go to the appointment Confused

The paperwork is absolutely necessary. Without the paperwork on the correct colour of paper given in at the right time permission will NOT be granted - you missed the next sentence where I explain this is what they say.

Seems your anger is at my employer, which is fine, but aiming it at me is unfair.

@Tiredallofthetime
Yes, you’re right my anger and frustration is at your employer. But it is equally frustrating that you were seeming willing to roll over and give into their demands. You have to put yourself and your baby first.

I probably have a slightly skewed vision on this, I work with poorly babies. To me it doesn’t matter what they say, they can’t stop you and you shouldn’t let them try. I know you’ve come to the conclusion now that you’re going to the appointment so not to beat you over the head with this but just to explain my stance.

Tiredallofthetime · 08/12/2022 22:37

It isn’t about being willing to give in to their demands, @Pjsandhotchoc . It is simply about trying to make what is already a difficult juggling act a bit easier. On me, not them. They are absolutely fucking ridiculous and I do know this, but knowing it does not stop them being ridiculous.

As I explained upthread, can they legally prevent me from attending a midwife appointment - no. However, in two years time, can they prevent me going to a routine hospital appointment in working hours - yes, actually, they can.

It’s not canniness, it’s just fecklessness. No wonder your company gets away with it, you so willingly roll over for them. And consider yourself clever for for it to boot - it’s embarrassing.

Everyone telling me this - in theory I agree, in practice it is different.

I will return the form and they will refuse. And OK, they are breaking the law, but they aren’t going to care about that, so then, what do I do - seriously?

I’ve worked for an employer like the op’s. Nightmare to deal with. The type to cancel leave at any given moment, or to refuse to accept that you’re sick when you have a dr note to prove it.

then micromanaging when you come back because you were away and clearly can’t cope with things.

needless to say I left.

Tiredallofthetime · 09/12/2022 06:50

Did you consider yourself very clever when you left? Apparently that’s what I’m doing Confused

And - last night I said that I’d be going to the midwife appointment.

So the people who are coming on just to tell me I’m annoying / embarrassing / stupid - do you not think possibly you’re making me feel shit? And that maybe I already feel rather shit, hence being off? Back off, will you Confused

Sorry you've had so much hate on here @Tiredallofthetime. Hope you can get to your appointment and not get any hassle from work x

good grief where on earth do you work? This is pathetic

HungryandIknowit · 09/12/2022 11:31

If you can afford the harmony test I would just book a private scan (with harmony test) somewhere reputable on a day you can easily attend. Rebook your booking in appointment. Get rid of the stress

Hope the appt goes well
