Ok...I probably know why....it's cold/cost of living etc....BUT....it just seems everyone is ready for a fight/argument all the time!!!

Example

I just left a busy shop. In the queue behind two women who had a child in a pushchair. There was a decent sized gap between them and the person in front. Where I was standing behind them was akward as I was semi-blocking a staircase so people kept barging past me. I waited a good 3-4mins in the hope they would notice the gap and move forward...they didn't...I politely asked the lady closest to me if she could move forward a little...she told me "yeah 1 minute" and started fumbling in her shopping bags for something...her friend then turned to me and started going on about the fact that if it bothers me that much I can go around them bla bla...I replied that I didn't want it to seem I was pushing in which is why I hadn't done that...she then started going on and on raising her voice...giving pure attitude...I was literally in shock...what on Earth??? I am not a confrontational person and hadn't asked with any aggression/agitation or anything like that. I've definitely had ppl ask me to move up when I've been distracted and not noticed a huge queue gap...I usually apologise and move up. Why the drama??? I am finding that everyone is so quick to get hot tempered these days. It's really unpleasant.

Walking over a crossing the other day the guy next-ish to me shouts over at the queue of traffic "women can't fucking drive, fucking women etc etc" I notice his comments seem directed at the driver of the first vehicle in the queue which is a largish lorry where indeed, there is a woman driving. I think we were all a bit stunned, it was so silly and random. I said back, not really meaning him to hear, "You're the one walking mate" and my god, the screaming back from him.... .indeed OP People do seem a but lairy atm.

You're generalising one situation of a potentially sleep-deprived bad humoured mother to the whole, presumably, UK population.

Even if you came up with another 20 similar situations, it still does equate to everyone.

My point is that people have been rude and bad tempered since the dawn of time not just atm.

There are also many other people who are pleasant and patient.who aren't part of your twat-factor sample.

Ignore the twats on a short fuse and remember you've probably encountered pleasant people who have been filtered out of your twat factor sample.

Sorry, I've probably been in research and stats too long! Grin

Full moon?

Hotitalian · 08/12/2022 16:26

Sadly, I don't think this will ever change.

You just met a pair of prats, OP.
The majority of people are still reasonably polite.

LookdeepintotheAdvent · 08/12/2022 16:37

I agree OP - lots of passive aggressive behaviour and anger simmering just under the surface. I'm seeing it a lot in strangers and work colleagues too - people are very stressed and worried.

Just a sign of the times sadly.

phoenixrosehere · 08/12/2022 16:46

People like that annoy me. I have my earphones in all the time and partially this reason even because if they do get gobby I can pretend I don’t hear them. They look bonkers for yelling at a stranger who is not engaging with them whatsoever.

Setyoufree · 08/12/2022 16:52

I think there is a lot more anger at the moment. Walking in London yesterday I had drivers edging at me every time I was on a zebra crossing (I walk fast, absolutely no reason to be so aggro), cars cutting into each others' paths, friends being chippy with each other when that's not like them etc.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/12/2022 16:56

People are stressed and hope is in short supply.Sad

Yes everyone is pissed off I think, but then there have always been arseholes, what I've noticed more though is a trend where people who are behaving like arseholes demand to be treated 'kindly' even when you're on the recieving end of them being anything but and tell you that you 'never know what someone is going through, so be kind' which actually means 'I shall behave how I want towards you and turn you into the bad guy if you have an issue with it'.

And if you're in a customer facing role, well then everything is your fault!
