To be fucking freezing

I work full-time. I am at home trying to work and only putting the heating on for a few hours, but I am fucking freezing. It is bitter outside. So fed up of this already. Fucking Merry Christmas.

@Cheesuswithallama I guess it's all relative. My house is big and I have a child also. I've already spent £6 odd on gas for today alone.
Perhaps I've had my gas on longer than you today it depends doesn't it.

Yeah it is. I heat just the room I work in. The rest of the house is heated outside of the work time like it would normally be

currently say here in a vest and leggings, a pair of joggers over the top, a t shirt, a hoodie and my dressing gown over the top, oh and a scarf 🤣. Our thermostat is set to 13. I hate it. We work bloody hard so should at least be able to enjoy some heat! Grrrr

Omg 13...😯😯😯😯 😢😢😢😥😥

Everyone's different - I either have a tenner train fare to go to work plus a 1.5 mile walk each end, or parking at £15 a day (city centre). So I usually cycle to work. However, after coming off on ice and breaking my wrist a few years back I don't cycle on icy days, so it's WFH. I can (and do) layer up as much as possible - lined walking trousers, merino base layer, hoodie, down gilet, Bridgedale socks and Ugg slippers, but it's hard to get my hands warm, and I type literally all day. The house is a single brick detached cottage with no cavity and it's half way up a hill in the north so really doesn't hold the heat. At the moment I'm sat at my computer screen at home and had the brainwave of getting in a sleeping bag and at least keeping the half of my body that can't be seen on a Teams call warm.

SinnerBoy · 08/12/2022 17:46

Ours came on overnight, it was set to 16°. It must have been on for a while, as the house felt warm. I sent my daughter to school and took the dog for a walk, setting it to 17° and when I came back at about 10, it felt cold, so I turned it up for an hour.

I fired up the wood burner at about 2:30. There was a lot of ice on the beach road today, mostly isolated puddles, frozen right through.

We have started putting our dressing gowns over our normal clothes. I highly recommend it.

This! Haha been doing that regularly too. I have one of these quilted robes from Ali express that's thicker than a regular fleece gown to throw over clothes:

Think John Lewis also has something similar now.

Trollsintheforest · 08/12/2022 17:50

Ok so far, but will be getting a lot colder next week. Just heated up my wheat pillow in the microwave, it is truly great.

Minus 11° - where are you?

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 08/12/2022 17:54

If anyone needs to go from frozen solid to sweating from every pore May I recommend travelling on the Victoria Line at Rudy hour for 10 mins? Must be a toasty 30° in there 😂

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 08/12/2022 17:55

Rush hour *

@SinnerBoy Sweden. This is not even very cold. But no, you don’t want to forget your gloves, like my dd just did right now when she cycled home from work..

SinnerBoy · 08/12/2022 17:56

There may well be some Ruddy people, if it's 30°

greenhousegal · 08/12/2022 18:00

Sounds like remote working/living in the Canaries or Southern Spain would be cheaper than the heating bills here! And so much nicer too. Sigh.....

Ah, I suspected you might have been in Scandinavia. I spend an awful lot of time in Norwegian waters and getting on and off in the coldest weather can be quite an experience for someone from a more temperate climate. A few years ago, we got kicked off the ship in Hammerfest, in January and then dumped at the airport, before 8am.

A couple of guys rang the boat and the office, only to get verbal shrugs. A little after 9, a guy stopped and asked what us idiots were up to, then got angry with our employer and shortly afterwards, someone came an opened up and turned the coffee machine on. The first flight wasn't till 3pm!

I was in Göteborg the September before lockdown and I absolutely loved it. 30 days, with rain on 27!

Oh, I just had a look! It is to Egypt which I personally wouldn't be interested in. Maybe they will do more destinations soon.

Trollsintheforest · 08/12/2022 18:09

@SinnerBoy Hammerfest would probably be lovely in July though!

caringcarer · 08/12/2022 18:10

I have the heating on and am still cold. I had to go out twice today in cold. DH defrosted car for me so I could just dash out into car and go but took ages to warm up in car. Home now and even in a warm room still cold. Have hot pot of tea though.

They did. There was plenty incl spain etc. They msut have sold out or drop it

Whyisitthiscoldalready · 08/12/2022 18:10

It has been absolutely freezing today, had the heating on since 5am, fireplace on, hot water bottle under my top and wearing a lot of layers, still cold. I'd still rather be working from home than at the office, my office is so much colder and there's ice on the roads, I'm not setting foot out of the house

Mabelface · 08/12/2022 18:17

Thermal tights under my jeans, Ugg boots, t shirt, thick zipped up cardigan, beanie hat, thin fingerless gloves and a heated throw keep me toasty when I'm working. I don't have the heating on in the day, and the above kept me warm when my home office was only 15°.
