To be fucking freezing

I work full-time. I am at home trying to work and only putting the heating on for a few hours, but I am fucking freezing. It is bitter outside. So fed up of this already. Fucking Merry Christmas.

If I could work from home I would be warm, sadly the heating has gone kaput in our office and work is really quite chilly! I'm seriously considering taking my bedding in with me tomorrow (definitely taking a hot water bottle) if they haven't fixed it by then.

GroundhogGroundhog · 08/12/2022 16:17

I don't work from home. But I'm surprised anyone wanting to stay at home now the temp has dropped and spend £££ in heating when the office will be warmer and you don't have to pay!

Roundtrip commute to my office and back costs £55. Plus, it's not that warm (they never heat it above 19 degrees). Plus, bright lights, people talking, and hassle! And walking in cold to station and station to office etc. Many reasons.

£55a day? I don't know how anyone used to afford that kind of money when they HAD to go into work. I said earlier... I know everyone's circs are different.

Radiodread · 08/12/2022 16:28

Am feeling bloody smug cos my heated throw has just arrived in the nick of time. Been on back order for ages. I whacked it right up to max setting straight away - lovely! although now i want another one for my feet....

Trinity65 · 08/12/2022 16:31

To whom shared the link to the amazon heaters
Thank You

Just ordered one for my living room and one for my sons bedroom.

queenofthewild · 08/12/2022 16:50

I work in a drafty school office. I wear one of those "hideous" blanket things at my desk now. It regularly goes below 15 degrees by my desk.

DesertIslandCondiment · 08/12/2022 16:02

Is it the first time you've seen one?

They are everywhere.

My mum came round yesterday and saw me in mine, she's never seen one before. There were comments Xmas Grin

Bobbybobbins · 08/12/2022 16:54

I went into work today on my day off as had to work anyway (teacher - marking!) so thought I may as well take advantage of their heating!

Zanatdy · 08/12/2022 16:58

Off to the office tomorrow. And every other day of this cold spell! It’s 25 degrees in there

Thelnebriati · 08/12/2022 17:00

I'm wearing the overalls they use in industrial freezers. And a hat. I look like a twat but they'll keep me warm down to minus 50 degrees.

We have started putting our dressing gowns over our normal clothes. I highly recommend it.

Oh yes, we do the same thing.
Also recommend really good slippers with a good sole.

LadyHarmby · 08/12/2022 17:03

My boiler is kaput so I’ve had no heating for two days and still don’t. Bet you feel better now OP.

DH season ticket used to be £7500 to London.

It's now £100 a day instead. Lots of people have to pay that.

1994girl · 08/12/2022 17:04

Yep try being on maternity with a 5 month old freezing. Deal with it

Bloody Hell, 2 grand a month to get to work!?

Dogsgottabone · 08/12/2022 17:09

@SinnerBoy well he only goes once or twice a week now so it's the daily peak ticket price.

On the subject of hearing, we have a calor gas stove on wheels, usually a £50 tank of gas gets through the winter. DH keeps it in the room he is in.

So the room you're in can be freezing for all he cares? Charming

OhPeggySue · 08/12/2022 17:21

I've got fluffy jammies on, dressing gown, hot water bottle between the 2 layers and a heated throw over me. Am warm as toast. Dog is in his fluffy bed with a fleece tucked round him, snug as a bug in a rug. Went on a dog walk earlier and the house felt positively tropical in comparison when we got back!

Ha ha! No, I work in a school and am out of the house all day until the proper heating comes on at 4pm!

It's unsafe for a baby to be in freezing (presumably that's a hyperbole - I hope so) temperatures. Are you claiming UC while you're on maternity leave? Even if you're not normally entitled, you may be while you're off.

If not, call your midwife and see if she can help.

girlmom21 · 08/12/2022 17:35

I meant health visitor, not midwife!

Mime is like 4 quid a day only but that's about 3x more I spend on keeping my home office warm.
I don't get how so many people use more heating per room than they would pay for overpriced public transport

currently say here in a vest and leggings, a pair of joggers over the top, a t shirt, a hoodie and my dressing gown over the top, oh and a scarf 🤣. Our thermostat is set to 13. I hate it. We work bloody hard so should at least be able to enjoy some heat! Grrrr

Ivyblu · 08/12/2022 17:39

@Cheesuswithallama I guess it's all relative. My house is big and I have a child also. I've already spent £6 odd on gas for today alone.
Perhaps I've had my gas on longer than you today it depends doesn't it.

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2022 17:41

It's effing freezing today.

It was - 6c this morning here.

We'd used £5 worth of gas before we even got up this morning. The main part of the house has been 14c but the kitchen was a very chilly 9c when I was in this afternoon.

We are expecting this week to be one of the worse over the whole of winter, but it's still depressing that we've spent that much and it's still so cold.
