ENERGY FRAUD … do I report ?

Hi. I’m really torn on this and not sure what to do if anything . Someone close to me has a business that uses a lot of gas and electricity of which with the rising costs are now thousands in debt .

They mentioned some time ago about knowing someone who could cap the gas meter for a fee . This would slow down the gas meter and produce a much lower bill but wouldn’t close it off completely.

the person close to me was previously paying about £550-600 a month in Gas and I’ve seen their last two direct debits have now dropped to under £100 a month for gas ( no way this is accurate ) they told me they didn’t get the gas capped because they couldn’t afford what they guy wanted paid to do it but it’s clear looking at the recent drop compared to the last 6 months that they have indeed done something to the gas .

Im annoyed because I too like all of us are paying a lot to even heat our homes and here is someone on purpose committing fraud and I believe it could be dangerous as this is a commercial business surrounded by flats above .

Do I report it or ignore it

Would they even take a report seriously ? Has anyone ever had to report for energy fraud ?

Sorry I’ve name changed @Sennelier1
i was the pp!

so you return from the pub toilets to find your friend has left to go home. You know they have drunk a few glasses of wine. You know they drove here. You know they’ve driven home as car gone.

so you couldn’t make sure. But as you sit there, you know your friend is driving under the influence

It’s not harming you in any way whatsoever so why do you feel the need to report?
this is the prime example of why people always say be careful with who you share your private matters with - some people pretend to be your friend but are just envious of you and praying for your downfall.

@Goodgrief82 , I can only say I do my "bestest" to keep my loved ones safe. What's out of my control I can not help.

Ok so your earlier statement that you wouldn’t report a friend for drink driving only applies when no risk to your loved ones. Got it.

If someone in my block of flats had possibly been tampering with their gas meter and a friend of theirs suspected it, I would bloody hope the friend would report them so it could be investigated. I don't want to die in a gas explosion that could have been prevented,or less seriously but still devastating for me, lose my home in an explosion.

@Goodgrief82 What??? It only applies when I can do something actively! I can stop a friend from drunkdriving if he/she is in anyway in my vicinity! Not if he/she is in another town! What makes you think I will only act if and when one of my own is involved? I love my friends, ergo I try and keep them safe! So not let them drive WUI! You're trying to make it sound as if this is about my children! You're a very weird person.

You didn’t say that.

You said you wouldn’t denounce a friend for drink driving.

Goodgrief82 · 13/12/2022 18:37

And by reporting… you are doing “something”.

All being well the drink driver is caught by police

Goodgrief82 · 13/12/2022 18:38

Odd that you think the only thing you can do to stop or drink driving friend if for you to take their keys or try to persuade them not to.

Police

Sennelier1 · 13/12/2022 18:48

@Goodgrief82 , of course not, because I wouldn't let him/her drive! People who've had more than one single drink shouldn't be on the road, so I wouldn't let them! I would safely shuttle them home - so no need to go to the police about them being drunk!.

What if there was a gas explosion and people died?
