Slagging off drug users, but constantly pissed

I have a couple friend, they’re lovely, very fun, outgoing, always drunk. Dh and I aren’t massive drinkers nowadays..back in our *Yoof in the 90’s we took drugs, went to clubs etc, I stopped everything tummy early 30’s aside from drinking and smoking, now early 40’s haven’t smoked for years, drink occasionally (small kids will do that to you 🤣)
These friends always go on about hating drugs and how wrong it is (even smoking the odd joint) but they are seriously very drunk..a lot. I have some friends who don’t drink but have a joint at night and they’re snooty about this..but these friends literally relax at home, have a little laugh then go to bed. My drinker friends are up all night, sometimes the Dh gets into trouble etc, they have a small son and so on.
Aibu to find it irritating the moral stance they take on drugs with the way they act etc?

If it don't like it step back from the friendship 🤷‍♀️

Some alcoholics are in denial. It’s a socially acceptable thing to do so it’s easy for people to convince themselves that “they’re not that bad” in terms of alcohol intake. One way of doing this is by saying “well at least I’m not taking X drug like Susan”

Getupthychimneylad · 06/12/2022 22:04

@AriettyHomily I don’t mind if they get pissed a lot, I don’t judge, up to them. I just don’t understand the drug stance when they are very drunk a lot of the time, with a small son and often getting into cars..then look down their nose at people smoking weed in the privacy of their own home..I don’t get it

I’ve also drank, smoked and took drugs back in my youth. Stopped the day I found out I was pregnant 4 years ago. Never touched them since, not including the odd glass of wine here and there too. I don’t judge the odd joint here and there or night out for others but seriously can’t stand when people are drunk everyday. (Alcoholic dad and working in a pub does that to you!). Although my dad was and still is lush and the most incredible man, my heart aches for him. I don’t understand how one dependent person can judge another though. Maybe need to mind their own business and wind their neck in. X

I get it the other way round! I know a few people who are evangelical about not drinking and quite judgy of those who do: but smoke weed/hash most days and are on the sniff most weekends.

louderthan · 06/12/2022 22:06

It is extremely tedious.

Elsiebear90 · 06/12/2022 22:06

Yeah I know people like this, go mad about people smoking the odd joint because “it’s illegal”, but have got so drunk they’ve vomited all over and wet themselves. I think some people don’t realise alcohol is a drug, because it’s legal it’s more socially acceptable.

brrr cocaine without alcohol

OneTC · 06/12/2022 22:08

That aside there are other moral implications to doing drugs than just being shitfaced

OneTC · 06/12/2022 22:09

Supply chains being the obvious examples of what's wrong with the trade

Getupthychimneylad · 06/12/2022 22:12

@louderthan Yes I also know them too…seems to be quite a divide between the two, my weed smoking friends mainly hate drinking..have to say that the most in control, normal friends are the drug taking, non drinkers though (these friends don’t do coke etc anymore, likely did years and years ago) but my heavy drinkers friends life is a mess and v chaotic and not great for their son I don’t think 😬
I’m just a boring bugger who does pretty much sweet fa these days but have been on both sides so not judging

@OneTC I don’t think they even think of that tbh, it’s almost like a snobbery against drugs, but in my head I’m like ‘But…look at you guys and your lifestyle’ 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah it's a bit hypocritical

TaraRhu · 07/12/2022 11:29

At a fundamental level it is illogical to support getting into a mind altered state from one substance and not another. Plus I if there were no drugs I'm pretty sure addicts would be alcoholics or have other problems. You don't just become an addict by looking at a gram of coke. It's fuelled by other issues generally.

I guess the difference is legality and the crime associated with drugs. Especially with cocaine and heroine which are imported and have impact la across the globe.

There's also the mental health arguments about drugs like weed and whether they cause issues.
