To think about turning down much better job?!

Been offered a job that pays a lot more than what I’m on now. (Jump from 30 - 45K). But… it’s doing something I haven’t done before and there is a 6 month probation. To pass probation you have to be signed off as competent in at least 4 separate areas. And….. I am anxious about it. What if I’m not signed off and end up having to leave? Does anyone think that jump is worth it? Or would you stay? I don’t hate my current job and it’s going relatively well. So feels like a bit of a risk. Especially as I have only been in current job for 6 months anyway. Would leave a lot of explaining to do on CV…

That's a huge jump, and they must think you're up to the job to have offered you it. I say go for it but be prepared for a steep learning curve and possibly having to put in some extra time to begin with to really brush up your knowledge/skills.

But - you've actually been offered this job! This isn't speculative. You've applied, been interviewed, been chosen.

All jobs have a probation period. It seems likely that you'll be competent, why not?

Imposter syndrome is a thing, try not to let it sabotage your life. Really amazing people have confessed to me that they feel imposter syndrome. So it has no basis in relation to actual competency.

Take the job and enjoy the pay rise! Extra money every single month.

Sounds great!!

What is it doing?

You will regret not doing it, just give it your all!

You have only been in your current job 6 months. You will still be finding out bits of your current job that are not all that great. You may as well have a lovely payrise when finding out bits of a job that are annoying 😁
