put this under AIBU but past caring if I am being unreasonable really as just generally completely pissed off with shitty companies and their shitty services. So in all honesty, this is a rant.

Just moved house and it's been one thing after another with crappy companies - carpet companies, furniture companies, delivery companies - it's been a trail of shit service, no accountability, excuses ... absolute crap from one of them to the next, spent hours chasing up things I've ordered and paid for BUT I HAVE TO CHASE THEM DOWN AND GIVE UP MY TIME TRYING TO GET SOMETHING I'VE PAID FOR!

I am sick of misrepresentation by companies, lack of accountability, inability to deliver on service, and it always being someone's else's fault. To coin my name, what is the world fucking coming to?

Wait till you need a tradesman.... I've heard every excuse under the sun as to why can't come to do job as promised. Utterly shit, and utterly stressful.

I could write a book on this.

I/we inherited a large Victorian property that required extensive refurbishment, you're talking £120k+. This involved builders, plumbers, electricians and craftsmen for the stonework and other period features. The end result is stunning but the process was a fucking nightmare on elm street. In the end my husband hired a project manager as it was affecting my mental health.

All I can say is the only ones who were true professionals and showed a pride in their work were the stone masons, the mens who did the sash windows , gardeners and the french polishers. Intestingly, these guys were all over 50, polite, drank gallons of tea and cleared everything up afterwards. They were really lovely. The rest were total wankers, to a man. Three of them left the job half done and never came back.

When they say Crossrail was £billions over budget and 4 years late I can believe it. And only in this country. You just know the Japanese, Chinese or even the Germans would not tollerate such tardiness. It's just not in their DNA to behave like scum.

@Pythonese I think we need a major culture shift in this country to avoid the dregs of society being able to call themselves a skilled tradesperson and in turn run a business where their only skills are letting people down.

We have a huge skills shortage so all the excellent tradespeople are very very busy so a lot of us get left with the chancers. We need more kids learning a craft, setting up successful businesses they can be proud of. Go home at the end of the day with a real sense of achievement because the work they do, is well respected. The truth is, we still push too many kids into further education and office work because it's deemed to be more aspirational. It's simply not. If we look to the Scandinavian countries in particular, a tradesperson is held in very high regard. If it was the same here, we'd have more decent people in the business. We have a ridiculous class system in this country that frankly makes no sense.

Just watching the Repair Shop, I hope it gives young people the knowledge that there are other options in life.
