To be worried about this cough

I have had a cough for about a week now. In the last four days it has become extremely violent, never had a worse cough in my life. Each coughing round leaves me completely worn out. Since Friday my temperature has been 38-39 and I have barely slept.

I am feeling progressively worse instead of better and I'm thinking of taking the day off work tomorrow (I WFH so wouldn't infect others anyways) and try and speak with a doctor. DH who has the same symptoms thinks it's just a seasonal cold but I've never felt so bad in my lungs, not even with COVID.

DD had the same symptoms, paired with a skin rash. Quite worried it might be that Strep A infections the papers keep writing about? I haven't been so ill in more than 10 years...

I forgot to add: took five COVID tests and they are all negative!

When did you last do a covid test & are you doing throat and nose, even on nasal only tests? Only asking because I’ve known people be negative day after day when coughing & feeling awful and then suddenly test positive.

Then phone a doctor? There’s a whole host of things it could from a bad cold, flu, a virus or a bacterial infection that needs antibiotics.

You shouldn’t have left a temperature at 38/9 all weekend. You need to be taking paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours and not over wrapping yourself in big jumpers or duvets.

I thought about phoning an out of hours doctor but I didn't want to weigh on the NHS at this time of the year. I thought it was just flu/a bad cold but now I am realising it might be something worse. Weekend visits here take ages anyways and I would rather get an appointment with my GP practice tomorrow.

Phone 111

Take fever reducing Medicine early Night and ring GP tomz.

It's prob gone to a chest infection

Vicks on feet helps with coughing.

Took another COVID test (a throat one) and it's still negative.... 🤷

Thanks @HeBeaverandSheBeaver it sounds like a great plan. I was taking cough syrup but read on the NHS website they don't advise taking cough medicine for productive coughs.
