Amazon, new policy?

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 04/12/2022 16:50

We are away and have over the past 2 days have about 3 parcels which have been attempted to be delivered.

We have a ring doorbell and have asked if they can leave the parcel in our safe place, but they need to see our ID and check we are over the age of 18.

None of the parcels are age related.

Is this a new policy?

Here that only happens with age related or high value items I’ve had deliveries every day the last week and they are left on the doorstep, often my neighbours doorstep to be fair 😂

LBFseBrom · 04/12/2022 16:54

You can choose when you want parcels delivered, it's quite easy.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 04/12/2022 16:54

It's bloody annoying 🙄 every parcel "we need to see your id"

Why it's not high value and its not age related

My newly turned 16 yr old (doesn't look anywhere near 18) has taken in all the parcels in the last week with no ID check. Nothing very high value though.

Essexgirlupnorth · 04/12/2022 16:56

Only ever had them asking for ID when we ordered alcohol from Amazon

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/12/2022 16:56

Why would your order something if you will not be there for the delivery? this bugs the shit out of me

IAmTi · 04/12/2022 16:56

What is it?

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 04/12/2022 16:58

Yes what's been ordered?

Well you say that but the last 2 Amazon deliveries have turned up a day earlier than initially stated......and the message comes on the day of arrival so its no help if thats a day im in the office.

ditalini · 04/12/2022 16:58

Actually we've had a couple of instances of the ol' Amazon wheeze of leaving a parcel on the doorstep with the door mat cunningly balanced on top recently 🙄, and one of them had a +£200 pc component in it, so no, they're not cracking down round here.

Onnabugeisha · 04/12/2022 16:58

I vaguely recall this when I had a set of kitchen knives delivered….

Because Amazon don’t do timed deliveries

Two of the parcels have my name, but I have all my parcels so could be gifts from someone else.

DH parcels are early as they were booked to come after we got back.

Some parcels say between 2 and 10, should I stay in on those days just incase?

Do you have your safe place pre-selected before delivery?

If not then it's probably that the couriers have been told not to leave the parcels in random places on the word of someone on the end of a ring doorbell when they cannot verify that the person talking to them and the recipient are the same person (also they probably can't leave things on the say so of a child so that will be why they need ID to prove you're over 18)

ADialgaAteMyDog · 04/12/2022 17:02

They've been using Royal Mail and DPD round here lately which makes a difference. A friend ordered shampoo as she just can't get to a shop, expecting it to be left behind her bin. It was Royal Mail who took it back to the depot, which she couldn't get to. Might be something like that.

user26189065 · 04/12/2022 17:06

Do you pay with a debit card as you don't need to be 18 for that, a credit card you do, maybe It's something like that

Yes we have a safe space on our account, I have also suggested delivery to a neighbour, but no it has to be me or DH with id

We’ve not had this - lots of Amazon parcels recently. I’d say it’s down to either the driver or a known issue in your area of people taking parcels that aren’t theirs.

wonkylegs · 04/12/2022 17:08

We've only been asked for ID for alcohol and a camping cutlery set in because it had a knife (although it was blunter than a butter knife)

DrMarciaFieldstone · 04/12/2022 17:08

Only happens with alcohol and razor blades here

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 04/12/2022 17:09

If I said leave it with a neighbour on our account, how would they check my ID

I think it might be the same driver.

You can do set day deliveries though, or get them sent to a pick-up shop instead.

KrystynaZ · 04/12/2022 17:10

They left my most recent delivery on the doorstep outside my block of flats.
