Amazon, new policy?

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 04/12/2022 16:50

We are away and have over the past 2 days have about 3 parcels which have been attempted to be delivered.

We have a ring doorbell and have asked if they can leave the parcel in our safe place, but they need to see our ID and check we are over the age of 18.

None of the parcels are age related.

Is this a new policy?

Asda id'd me for a scrubbing brush last week.

There is a procedure now with buying knives, not just a simple ID check at the door, involves filling in a form, some shops use different couriers for knives, new government legislation I think so don't be surprised if anyone is ordering kitchen knives at extra security stuff

If I said leave it with a neighbour on our account, how would they check my ID

They wouldn't but if it's already preselected then they can be confident that the account holder is the one who has set the safe place.

However, if you didn't have the SP selected then they probably can't just take the word of some random voice saying "Yes that's my parcel, put it in X place" and need to verify ID tho make sure you are the recipient (which you obviously can't do as you aren't present so they take it back). Same if you are asking them to leave it in a different place to the pre selected SP (eg if your SP was the shed but you were saying to leave it behind the bin etc)

TBH if you know you're not in during the delivery window and know that the Amazon courier won't leave the parcel if you talk to them over the ring system then why respond at all? If you didn't speak to them when they rang the bell then maybe they would just leave it in your SP anyway?

Only for alcohol that I've seen and we order from amazon fairly frequently!

fishonabicycle · 04/12/2022 17:25

Idiot Amazon driver 2 weeks ago did several deliveries in my village - one literally thrown over fences, into bushes, and one left at bottom of drive, one left by the road just inside our front gate. Our delivery notification said left in porch'. It was a kindle, which I didn't find til the following evening, so it was lucky it wasn't raining.

Lindy2 · 04/12/2022 17:30

Amazon are still happily leaving our parcels on the porch, pressing the door bell (sometimes) and running back to their van. When I watch it back on the RING some of them are really quite impressively quick.

The only time we actually have face to face contact is for alcohol and despite me being well over 18, they still need to see ID.

Why would your order something if you will not be there for the delivery? this bugs the shit out of me

Because Amazon drivers leave the parcels on the step or just wherever. Doing this means that they have to give customers their money back if the parcel doesn’t arrive. So if they’re not bothered, neither are we. Many people with Prime have deliveries most days for bits and bobs. This isn’t a good thing necessarily because of all the packaging but not many people can resist the convenience.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 04/12/2022 17:31

I'm on forum for Amazon Flex drivers as me and DH used to deliver a few years ago. Apparently Amazon has random crack downs on drivers for not asking for ID (they're supposed to ask for ID for all deliveries) if they don't comply they can lose their Flex account and no longer be allowed to deliver. Maybe your driver has been issued a warning so he's being extra careful not to lose his job.

Georgyporky · 04/12/2022 17:33

You can give feedback about the delivery on the Amazon site.

CirreltheSquirrel · 04/12/2022 17:33

I was surprised yesterday, we were out for an Amazon delivery and expected them to just leave it in one of the places they usually do, but the driver actually phoned me and asked me where I wanted it.

Usually they don’t tell the exact day it will be delivered until a day or 2 before.

Then the time slots are often between 8-6 when the majority are at work.

Mine always leave it on the doorstep.

Amandasummers · 04/12/2022 17:35

I had a high value package left on my doorstep this week which was not there when I got home and amazon are refusing to refund and have even told me to waste police time with this matter because a photo of it on my doorstep is proof apparently! I'm not sure what I'd prefer 😫

L0bstersLass · 04/12/2022 17:37

What did Amazon say when you asked them?

FootsATapping · 04/12/2022 17:39

Could you not use an Amazon locker? Pre covid we used this as we could never guarantee one of us would be in. Made life so much easier to have it delivered there and collect it within a couple of days.

I have nothing but praise for my Amazon delivery drivers. Always been great.

mumda · 04/12/2022 17:41

Near me they've had some scumbag following the Amazon van and picking up from doorsteps/bins.
I still don't get why they leave things in bins.

Because customers tell them to leave things in bins.

I have a secure front porch and my account instructs all deliveries to be left inside there.

If I ordered things for when I'm at home I'd never get a bloody parcel.

Watsername · 04/12/2022 17:44

Most of the drivers round here just leave it on the step. Some don’t even ring the bell.

Today DS took in a parcel for me when they rang. He’s 14!

And Amazon don't give you a time slot?

Beautiful3 · 04/12/2022 17:45

You can get it delivered to a locker near you. Saves you missing the delivery.

How can it be secure? If the Amazon driver can access it, surely other people can?

thelobsterquadrille · 04/12/2022 17:10

You can do set day deliveries though, or get them sent to a pick-up shop instead.

For Prime you can. But a lot of non Prime items don't give you the option. I ordered an item on Amazon last week, no Prime option, and says delivery between 7th - 11th

Babdoc · 04/12/2022 17:51

I just get Amazon to deliver free of charge to my village shop. They are open until 9pm, so I can stroll round and collect whenever I like, I just show them the barcode on my phone. Much safer, as the shop has a secure storeroom, and v convenient.

Because I never know when they will deliver and I actually amn't tied to the damn house?

Why would it it bug you whether I get my parcels or not? Which I do, as they leave them on the doorstep and don't need ID, an adult, or anyone at all to be in....

That isn't an option for everyone.
