to think Uber Eats are thieving scumbags?

Ordered a curry takeaway a few nights ago. Uber Eats driver arrived, we brought it in and realised we’d been given someone else’s order. Not that it matters but it was seafood, which I like but not in a curry! One dish was crabs legs which we didn’t even have the tools to crack open and eat!

Called restaurant who said the driver had taken two orders so must have switched them, but that we had to go to Uber Eats for a refund and could reorder (from
Uber Eats) in the meantime.

Did that. Another £44 charged to my card - not cheap, but was a treat!

Wrote to Uber Eats support at the same time and explained. The response was that “after a review of this case and your account activity, it is not possible to provide a refund”. I’ve pushed back several times since asking why not - I‘ve essentially been charged £88 for a £44 takeaway. Met with the same generic responses - “each case is reviewed individually to ensure a fair resolution, we’re sorry you’re disappointed etc”:

What am I missing here?! Any suggestions as to why they think this isn’t a refundable order and how to escalate this? They’re no longer responding to my messages on the “support” thread. £44 is a fair amount to write off but even if it were £5, its the principle isn’t it?

For a fraudulent card transaction, you call your bank, not just eat.

Did you call your bank? You'd have got the money back through them.

It wasn't fraudulent. There was just a mistake with the first order.

What was wrong with the old system of phoning up the takeaway place direct? Or is everyone scared of talking to people these days?

How is this remotely helpful to the OP?

My daughter deleted the app because of this , this seems common with uber eats

Deliveroo are much better when this sort of thing happens. If your favourite restaurant isn't on deliveroo tho, it doesn't really help.

Fwiw, I've had something similar and I contacted the restaurant sore t to tell them and they had no idea. I didn't ask the restaurant to refund me but they sent me a goodwill gesture and I thought that was very decent.

I've been sent a discount code thing from Uber Eats for £12 off my first 5 orders, so we decided to give it a go a few weeks ago. We used our usual Indian Takeaway, but using Uber Eats, it was £8 more expensive than it would have been ordering directly from them - and that included the £12 discount! Given the amount of threads I see about drivers stealing food and orders mysteriously disappearing en route, I don't think we'll be using them any time soon!

It’s always worth mentioning that you will do a charge back if they don’t refund you as it costs the company more (they add a surcharge).

I cancelled my uber eats premium for this reason. So many takeaways with missing food. We ordered one takeaway for four and they hadnt put any of the mains in. Uber eats offered £8 reduction (of an £75 order). I escalated it and they closed the case and i could no longer reply. So i cancelled my premium subscription gave them the case number told them what i thought of their customer service and will never use Uber again for either food or taxis.

I had a just eat driver deliver to the wrong house then refuse to answer the phone to me even after he'd just been speaking to me. I was then asked for proof my food didn't arrive by providing pictures! Eventually I got a refund. I also once got a refund as they emailed me and said my order is taking longer so they are refunding me and it arrived about 2 mins later. Win win.
