To want flat deposit back asap

My son and friend moved into a rented flat through an letting agency but after a year the landlord wanted to move back in. They moved out 6 weeks ago and haven’t had any deposit back yet (£950 deposit) What is the usual timescale for this?

Have they formally requested it back through whichever deposit scheme it's in?

When they moved in they should have been given the details of the deposit scheme the landlord/letting agency used to protect the deposit. In that should be the information about reclaiming the deposit at the end of the tenancy. Your son needs to follow the scheme’s instructions for reclaiming the money and then the landlord should have around 10-14 days to put in their counter claim if they wish to make any deductions.

Thanks, I didn’t think it should take this long. I’ll get him to contact them on Monday and see what’s going on.
