AIBU to think the 2nd of December is a bit late to announce no presents?

I'm all for the whole let's not get each other gifts this year/do a secret santa for the kids, but AIBU that the 2nd of December is a little late to announce it and really it needs to be said start of November? Looking at you SIL.

That's a point. I'll ask DH to clarify with her.

Taking the candle back is more hassle. I don't like the shops in the run up to Christmas.

I'll get a box of lindt or something for her when I'm next up the little shop.

Yes I know its not nice to be coming on here and moaning about her I genuinely wasn't sure if I was right to feel that 2nd of December is a bit late to leave it or not. I see from responses it's a bit of a grey area.

Did think about keeping it for Birthday but it's a wintery candle really

I've bought my friends kids presents (she has 3 kids, about a tenner each) and I dropped them at her mums who lives near us and she messaged to say she's really sorry they can't afford to do gifts this year as her husband has had his hours cut I just said don't worry at all - hope the kids enjoy them and please don't feel bad about it and she was relieved 😌
This was this week
I only spent about £5 on each of them just a little craft set (3 for £12 from the works) and a little selection box from the poundshop but it's no problem as I know she's appreciative and I don't give to receive.
I have a bigger issue buying for staff at the kids school some of which don't even send a Thankyou note, some do to be fair but that annoys me
