Compulsory Carol Service

My daughter is at secondary school.

The school Carol service is held at a hired event at 7pm .DD has no special part in the service. She would be part of the audience.

School says this event is compulsory.
They have told the pupils registers will be taken.

(Parents don't have to go but if they do their tickets are £8 each)

AIBU thinking school cannot make an after hours event compulsory?

They teach Creationism? Do they also teach Flat Earth in Geography?

You beat me to it, Ericaequites Wink
I'm hoping this is some sort of joke or misunderstanding, but if not I'd be less bothered about it being out of hours and more about a religious service being made compulsory

Ahh no just read up thread, not my school!

My child is expected to attend a Carol service during the day AND the evening on the same day. We are atheist. I’m just going to tell school they won’t be coming in the evening. End of.

Surely your AIBU should be about creationism!? The compulsory carol service is nothing compared to that.

Howamihere · 02/12/2022 23:05

If they’re teaching creationism then it has to be a faith school in which case, on a basic level, it means yes, yabu. YABU a million times more if you sent your child to a school knowing they teach creationism and a billion times more than that if your biggest worry is a compulsory Carol service!!

She’s autistic and this is causing her anxiety. Tell them she won’t be going due to that. It’s a reasonable adjustment for them to make.
