Would you say this is cheeky?

I just wanted opinions on something that has been playing on my mind this evening.
Tonight there was an event in my town- Christmas lights on, Santa etc. I had been working so showed up by the time my husband and son had been 15 mins in the queue to meet Santa.
It was freezing cold but lots going on and everyone in good spirits. In front of us, there was a woman and her little girl who was about four, she motioned she was leaving the queue but would be coming back. No problem, kids get bored/ maybe her child needed the toilet etc.She came back after 10 mins and went again. Ok, fed up of waiting, thought she’d got fed up. Another 40 mins on we were nearly at the front of the queue (and obviously it was still freezing, massive queue, all entertaining our kids before meeting Santa), and she appeared from nowhere, put her daughter under the rope and just walked under it herself and put herself at the front of the queue before us (where she had been 50 mins ago!). No acknowledgment or thank you, just slid right in when we were second in line for Santa. I give my husband a look and he did say “nice if we could all do that” but didn’t want to say anything to her. I was ready to tell her to bugger off but didn’t.
Normally I’m good for calling out a CF, and probably would have if I wasn’t surrounded by children outside of Santas grotto, but was she cheeky for expecting her place to be held in the queue for 40/50 mins? Is this an ok thing to do?
YABU - yes it’s ok, it was her place in the queue
YANBU - it’s a cheek!

How rude!! That’s so bloody cheeky, I’m surprised nobody said anything

KatherineofGaunt · 01/12/2022 23:01

Slipping out for a few minutes to get a drink or go to the toilet = fine.

Expecting the unrelated people behind you to hold your position in the queue while you go have fun somewhere else = CF.

Catdaft · 01/12/2022 23:03

How rude

123woop · 01/12/2022 23:12

That's really odd!
Although I wouldn't have been in a queue longer than 5 minutes for Father Christmas 🤣 I have very little patience

Testina · 01/12/2022 23:14

I think think the waters are muddied these days, as reserved queuing spaces has become a thing. Obviously that wasn’t the case here - but it opens up the concept that you can mark your place then not hang around.

Noshowlomo · 02/12/2022 09:54

Haha @123woop I couldn’t have taken my son from the queue, he REAAAALLY wanted to see Santa! I just froze my feet/hands off for 50 mins for the pleasure !
Thanks for your input all, I still think it was cheeky !!

Why didn’t you say anything?

These threads are only only interesting if you speak up at the time. So we can rejoice with you and high five you.

WaltzingWaters · 02/12/2022 10:19

Hugely cheeky. Surprised nobody said anything. To pop out to take her DC to the toilet for a few minutes is okay, but what she didn’t is massively not okay!

Noshowlomo · 02/12/2022 11:27

@poefaced it didn’t seem right, surrounded by kids by santas grotto.
Should it happen again I shall give them the boot

Wow that's cheeky , I'm surprised that no-one said anything though

Dotjones · 02/12/2022 11:41

YANBU, if you leave the queue you rejoin at the back, end of story. The only exception is if you get the agreement of EVERYONE in the queue behind you at the time you leave.

Whiskyvodka · 02/12/2022 11:46

People are weird.
I stood in the queue at security behind 2 women and a dc in a buggy.
One of the women left the queue and the other woman just stopped dead and didn’t move forward.
I asked her do you want us to go round you and she gave me a mouthful of abuse about waiting for her dd who had gone to empty her water bottle in the toilet.
And then they went in to the special assistance queue so I could have gone round her anyway!
