Is this heartburn, panicking?!

elm26 · 01/12/2022 22:05

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and ate about an hour ago. My partner is at a gig and I'm in on my own and I have a burning, tingling and a "blocked" sensation at the bottom of my throat.

I'm panicking as I've never had heartburn before and I'm worried if it's really that or if something else is wrong 😩

Sounds like heartburn/acid reflux to me.
what did you eat? I found when I was pregnant certain foods set it off.

Redkettle · 01/12/2022 22:08

Yes it's horrible if you haven't had it before . Common while pregnant

astronewt · 01/12/2022 22:08

That sounds like heartburn, yes. What are you panicking about? It's uncomfortable and annoying, that's all.

justasking111 · 01/12/2022 22:09

What did you eat and drink

SBAM · 01/12/2022 22:11

Sounds like acid reflux or heartburn. Do you have any rennies? I ate them like sweeties while I was pregnant. The prescription gaviscon also works well, but make sure you ask the pharmacy for mint flavour not aniseed.

elm26 · 01/12/2022 22:11

Thank you everyone. I'm panicking because I've had facial swellings including the lips due to an unknown allergy and I suddenly thought, what if it's anaphylaxis.

I just had a few party sausage rolls and mini cheese and bacon potato skins. Won't be doing that again! 😂

Sounds like it! Very common in pregnancy (ive only ever had it pregnant) and becomes horrendous towards the end :( luckily goes once baby arrives!!

I hated the mint, much preferred aniseed!

AliceAbsolum · 01/12/2022 22:22

Have some gaviscon and see what happens. I have about 12 bottles scattered around the house!

Felicity42 · 01/12/2022 22:24

You'll be needing a few bottles of Gaviscon. One for every room in the house maybe as time goes on 🙀
The puff pastry at night is a no no while pregnant.

elm26 · 01/12/2022 22:25

I don't have anything in the house for heartburn.

My partner has it so bad that he has about 100 rennies in his work van but he's taken his keys 😭

Might have to pop to garage and see if they have anything.

That's learnt ya .

I thought I might turn a corner in the second trimester and be all glowy and cute but I'm still a mess it seems 😭 love this pregnancy malarkey!

Do you have sodium bicarbonate in the kitchen? Most otc heartburn medicines are just this. Spoonful in a glass of water should do the trick

Loics · 01/12/2022 22:33

I have only ever had heartburn during pregnancy, it's horrible but not at all dangerous so no need to panic! I remember waiting for it to ease so I could sleep some nights, my partner also gets it fairly regularly and I definitely have a lot more sympathy now I know how it feels!
If you can't get any Rennie or similar, drinking water will help at least a little.

Squeakyegg22 · 01/12/2022 22:35

Sounds like heartburn - honestly the worst part of pregnancy (and birth!!) for me

Milk used to help me with it if you don't have any medicine!

Applepie18 · 01/12/2022 22:35

Oh yes that sounds like heartburn. It feels like a lump of sick that gets stuck in my throat and burns! Currently have it right now.

MissTiggywinkles · 01/12/2022 22:37

Another one who only ever had it whilst pregnant! It’s horrible (and got worse as I got bigger, sorry to say). It feels like a pool of acid at the bottom of your chest.
Dose up on the Rennies!

elm26 · 01/12/2022 22:37

It's horrible, feel like my throat is on fire! I'm sipping cold water (all I drink at the minute anyway).

God yes, the heartburn!

Means the baby has a lot of hair apparently (old wives take) wish mine were bald!

elm26 · 01/12/2022 22:42

That made me laugh 😂 all of my side of family looked like little monkeys when we were born, super dark thick hair! My sister was even born with a furry back 🤣 maybe I'm going to give birth to a chimp.

Oh bless you, heartburn was probably my worst complaint in pregnancy once the earlier morning sickness disappeared. Some are lucky but for me it lasted until birth. 100% vouch for gaviscon mint!! Just make sure you check the label as I don't think the double action is suitable in pregnancy. I used to chug the normal one straight from the bottle 😂

It might not be what you ate but the time and your activity after. I put myself on a food and drink ban (except water) from 7pm (dinner had to be finished be 6 though) as I knew I would likely be lying down within a couple of hours and that triggered it badly. Also anything tomato based for me... I haven't been able to look at heinz tomato soup since 😩 just try and mentally note what triggers it for you.. acidic foods, lying down too soon etc. Hope you feel better asap xx

mydudero · 01/12/2022 22:57

I also assumed DD would arrive with a mane thicker than mine but she was pretty much bald till about 5mo 🤷🏽‍♀️

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/12/2022 22:58

Your husband really needs to get his sorted out though. It sounds as though he is really suffering. He can be prescribed something to take every day that will stop the heartburn.

123woop · 01/12/2022 23:01

I'm 28 weeks and I've been surviving on a diet of tums and rennie since about week 5. Sounds like reflux to me and you might be sick. Try and drink as much water (or any liquid really but not fizzy
) as you can! It sucks
