Work Christmas Party

user32323 · 01/12/2022 20:39

Does you workplace invite ex employees to work Christmas parties?
We have had 3 colleagues leave for new jobs in the last 3 months and 3 new started (none of the new starters worked with the ex staff). Colleague thinks we should invite ex colleagues but I think we should keep it to current staff as this is the team now.
AIBU to think this?

Current staff only.

Wherearemyspex · 01/12/2022 20:43

They left for a reason! I wouldn't want to go back to the "old" place Christmas do. Definitely stick to current staff only.

My workplace always ask ex-colleagues who have left within the last year, back to the Xmas meal. (We don’t have a party!)

Current employees only.

What do you do about an employee who was sacked or left under 'dubious circumstances...'?

MolesOnPoles · 01/12/2022 21:00

Big staff party is currently t employees only, small team lunches include people who have left (if they want to come). That makes it easier to keep anyone who has left in tricky circs off the list without being too obvious.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/12/2022 21:01

Does it matter? Surely extend the invite but don't be surprised if it's rejected. Someone recently left my place of work after a 20yr career there and they will have been asked to this year's one.

Hidingawaytoday · 01/12/2022 21:06

We tend to do team lunches rather than company parties but ex-colleagues who have left in the past 12 months are usually invited - either to the whole thing or just to the drinks after the meal.

PlanBea · 01/12/2022 21:25

It depends on how long they worked there and why they left, if they were retiring after 40 years I'd invite them. Sacked after two months probably not!

AriettyHomily · 01/12/2022 21:27

Why would you go back to somewhere you had left? That's just odd.

louderthan · 02/12/2022 00:01

I'm going to mine, moved jobs last month but still in the same organisation and will be working on projects with staff from my old division.

Lilyhatesjaz · 02/12/2022 02:22

My work used to ask excollegues but we were all good friends and people tended to leave for retirement or for family reasons.
