changing my name by deed poll

Does anyone here have experience of changing their name by deed poll?

Not for the purposes of marriage, but because I want to add my mother's maiden name to my surname.

I realise that it is something of an undertaking, administratively speaking, and that I will have to change my name on official documents etc.

Is there anything else that it would be good to be aware of or keep in mind? Any pitfalls or issues you have faced with changing your name in this way?

Thanks!

I changed mine.

Its been no problem at all.

Just had to take/send the document to official places (I got 5 copies for speed and ease). Lots of places didn't need proof though.

Its really easy.

I've done it.
It really wasnt that difficult. Bit annoying changing things over but the online company I used sent me a checklist of who I needed to notify and who I might want to notify.

I also found it worth paying extra for some certified copies as there's quite a few places will only accept the original or certified copies and it meant I didn't have to wait for it to be returned.

I'd do it again if I felt the need to.

Yes I did but didn't necessarily need to. It was very simple to do!

DS changed his last year. He printed a form off the Internet, had it signed by 2 people (had 2 copies done just in case)
He took it into the bank, they changed his name on his account. Likewise college. He applied for a driving license using it too.

He didn't use any online companies, and didn't pay a penny to do it.

It's not really that difficult. Just make a list of everywhere that needs to be notified, fill it out online/print letters and post, done.

The thought of it is worse. It's just a mildly tedious admin exercise for an afternoon.

Okay -- this is all helpful information to know. Thank you!

It's very easy, just print the form off the internet and get a couple of witnesses to sign. No need to use a company or pay anything.

Fab, thank you. I am going to do it this way.
