Sugar-free drinks

I don't drink alcohol. Generally at Christmas I like to have some ginger ale. I can't find a single brand that doesn't taste like artificial sweetners.

Last year I discovered Fever Tree, this year I can only find the "Refreshingly Light" version.

Are there any out there that don't taste like crap? Why oh why do they feel the need to ruin everything by adding sweetners? They did the same with Irn Bru.

AIBU to think sweetners taste like shit and if we want to get fat and rot our teeth we should be allowed to do so in peace?

I hate sweeteners

sometimes you can still find San Pelegríno classic taste (ie no sweetener)

to me sweetener has a lingering nasty aftertaste

Speedweed · 01/12/2022 19:35

Yep, totally agree. It used to be easy to avoid sweeteners as they were only in diet drinks - now they mix them in with the full sugar versions, so it's almost impossible to avoid them.

Something to do with the sugar tax limiting promotions of sugary stuff maybe, so they can't do 3 for twos etc across the range if there is a sugary version?

Agree, I hate the taste and some sweeteners trigger migraines for me.

Fentimans ginger beer is nice.

User963 · 01/12/2022 19:45

I agree. Sweetners give me migraines.
I have had the fevertree ginger ale in the past too. Fentimans ginger beer doesn't have sweetners. I also drink appletiser.

I’ve discovered that on
the Sainsburys website if you type in “levy” it searches for items which have the sugar levy applied and so shouldn’t have artificial sweeteners. Haven’t tried other supermarkets but might do.

Not a fan of ginger beer, I wonder if Fentimans do ginger ale. I know there are plenty of other drinks I can try but I used to really enjoy ginger ale and it makes a nice change from Coca Cola or similar.

I never thought of that @HBZ287 , I usually shop at Sainsbury's so worth a try!
