Cant ask anyone about this in rl as it’s so petty and seems like a non issue.

Dh went away for work. He mentioned there would be a spa at the hotel before he left. When he got back I asked if he’d had a chance to use the spa and he said no.

Today I’ve emptied his bag to put a wash on. Swim shorts are dry but they smell overpoweringly of a spa. I asked him again if he’d used it and now he’s annoyed accusing me of not trusting him as he’s already told me no.

For context, couldn’t care less if he’s been to a spa or not I just thought it was an odd thing to lie about. Last time we went to one was a year ago and have been on holiday since then so they’ve been washed. I’m now confused because he’s so convincingly adamant he didn’t go but where has this smell come from if that’s the case? He does not have form for lying.

Aibu to have asked him? Or is he for being annoyed at me for asking him?

YABU going round smelling his swimming shorts. No offence. Grin

parietal · 01/12/2022 14:01

maybe he had a swim in the pool but didn't use the other bits of the spa. and didn't think that was relevant to your question

Why does it matter? You say he has form for lying, do you think he is hiding something else?

Ime, if you're going to confront him about it you need to know what outcome you want, or what your concern is to stop it just being a shouting match for the sake of it.

Aside all that, why are you emptying his case (and sniffing his shorts?!), he's a grown man yes? He should be emptying his own stuff and washing it!

Ittakesavineyard · 01/12/2022 14:05

Bit odd. I agree with PP maybe he had a swim in the pool which isn’t really what you asked and he’s annoyed at your for asking so not being forthcoming.
I think if they’d been used you’d know as they’d have that really fresh pool smell? Or they’d be a little damp still maybe? I can never get ours fully dry iykwim

Dacadactyl · 01/12/2022 14:06

Lol! If youd asked me had i used the spa id have said no too.

He clearly used the swimming pool.

The spa to me is facials, massages, water beds, pampering etc.

Ask if he used the pool. Youre asking the wrong question.

Murasakispillowbook · 01/12/2022 14:08

Yes, I wouldn't think swimming if you asked me about the spa - I'd think of people in robes with cucumber on their eyes!

the reason I was asking is because I’m annoyed that he got so annoyed at me for asking again. I did say it was petty.

it won’t turn into a shouting match. I do all the washing at home which is why I emptied his bag (I always do it when we’ve come back from trips). He could definitely pull his weight more with household chores but he does other chores.

What does a spa smell like?

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2022 14:33

YABU for not putting a proper thread title and now I’ve accidentally read about someone’s DH’s swimming trunks smelling ‘overwhelmingly of a spa’.

LaraMargot · 01/12/2022 14:36

Do you think he was enjoying steamy romps?

Dacadactyl · 01/12/2022 14:37

I realise iv just assumed hes been swimming, because otherwise, what does a spa smell like?!

White towelling bath robes and massage oil? 😮

So you can smell a white towelling bath robe? And it couldn't just be shower gel from swimming?

Bookworm20 · 01/12/2022 17:16

Its odd his shorts smell of the spa but he says he didn't use it. By any chance did he have any soap or anything in the case which might have just made the shorts smell?

I do know though that if I asked my DP if he'd used the spa, but he'd only gone swimming, he'd of just said, no didn't use the spa but I did have a swim. He wouldn't just deny it outright, get angry and fail to mention he'd used the pool though, which would of cleared everything up.

You can't really mistake a strong poolwater smell on swimwear. So if they smell of that, then he is lying. And you're right to wonder why on earth he'd lie about it.
