To use a Calpol plug in before 3 months?

My baby has a cold and is incredibly stuffed up, finding it tricky to breathe through his nose despite saline/steam/nose sucker etc.

The calpol vapour plug can only be used for 3 months plus. He's 12 weeks in an hour, but not 3 months until next week, so would I be unreasonable to use it just before 3 months?

I don't know what the reason is that it's 3 months plus so I don't know what the risk is of using it before then.

I would buy Vicks baby rub instead. I still use it now when my daughter is full of a cold and she's 3 now.

Baby rub is also 3 months plus!

A couple of days isn't going to make a material difference. Is he generally a healthy baby (aside from the cold)? If so, I'd say go ahead with the plug in but keep checking on him.

He had a few breathing issues in his first couple of days after birth but has been absolutely fine since then, apart from catching colds from his older siblings (this is his second already).

I don't think a week here or there makes any difference, wouldn't worry about that.

However snuffle babe vapour oil can be used from birth, you mix a few drops in a bowl of warm water in the room and it works in a similar way. We used that with DS as a newborn and have mostly continued to as it works out cheaper than buying loads of refill packs for the calpol plug ins.

I think it’s fine. I’m pretty sure it’s one of those things where they just haven’t tested under 3 months so can’t say it’s ok, but it’s just vapour
