to be on the verge of going Peig Sayers on it and making a poultice for me tooth?

I am going a little bit insane with what appears to be a toothache. I have escaped the legendary pain of a toothache until 5 days ago, though I have heard it described in the worst possible terms throughout my life. I thought with sympathy of those who described the pain, as it appears to render the sufferer capable of poetic and graphic levels of imagery which terrified me in their descriptions. There was something about the brilliance of description which suggested that a toothache produced a pain worthy of note; an inspirational level of pain.

I'm now at the point of going Peig Sayers on it with leeches, or of attempting to fashion a poultice at the very least. Failing that, was it Robinson Crusoe who was marooned on an island or something who resorted to twine and a door to pull a tooth? If I knew which tooth was the culprit, I'd knock myself out trying that method too at this point. Nothing has been ruled out.

Fuck!!!!!!!! This pain is horrendous! What's worse is that I know that I have codeine here somewhere but can I fuck find it!

I'm a weirdo who enjoys Peig Sayers. It's always on my re-read list😀

My English ex loved Peig....but of course she didn't read it i nGaeilge !

You could always dodge Peig apparently. A thig ná tit orm was on the LC curriculum too. But a lot of teachers defaulted to Peig simply because they knew it from their own school days.

Caisleáin Óir by Séamus Ó Grianna, that was the nonsense we had instead of Peig.

Ugh ...worse again ...Ulster Irish.

Now I'm going to have a root on the book shelf in my mothers house to see if the Peig book in English is still there. I'm actually dying to read it now. I was trying to explain it to my ten year old who was feeling persecuted by her Irish test yesterday and all I could think of to describe it was a book of mad stories that some ould one probably made up.

Does anyone on this thread know who Peig Sayers in besides me and the OP?!

I do 😄

LakeIsle48 · 03/12/2022 23:37

Cowpie, The Widow's Son, thanks very much!!! I think I'll start with that story and see how I get on.

LakeIsle48 · 03/12/2022 23:44

Sparky I'll have a root around the house for that book. I'll let you know how I get on with the sceal. I need a distraction to take my mind off a recent break up which I needed like a hole in the head! I'm really cut up but I suppose I'll probably live

Wakemeuuuup · 04/12/2022 09:44

If I remember correctly, and I probably don't, there were some changes made in the English version of the book to catch people out on exams. Apparently it made it obvious you hadn't properly studied it in Irish

Something about going to the races?

That's sounds like a mad conspiracy theory doesn't it 🤣🤣🤣. I don't think reading it in English would have made much difference to the exam for anyone I know as our level of Irish was always bad anyway so it's not it like anyone in my class could have actually have explained much in Irish even if we knew the answer in English .

I've come to terms, kind of, of accepting that a long relationship is banjaxed. There's only so many tears one woman can weep. I am going l to root around the house to find a labhair called Pros Don Man teistermach. No clue of how those words are spelt. I'll get the book down from the shelves under the stairs and I'll see how I get on. I'm determined to learn Irish this time. There used to be an Irish dictionary in our family home. I'm the grand age of 57. I've retired from my longterm employment and had to leave I got seriously ill with Long Covid. Thankfully I didnt get any of the breathing symptoms but I lost all my cognitive abilities. I had to give up my job. My retirement payment wasn't so hot after all. I'm on benefits in NI and it's not as crap as I thought it would be. I've applied for high rate PIP. I dont know the outcome yet. Luckily my local Mental Health Team are phenomenally helpful. They helped me with completing the PIP application form. I haven't heard back but I'm desperate to get some financial benefits so that I can function properly. I can honestly get lost about 10 minutes away from my home. Its really horrific. Actually I can get lost within 5 min from my front door

LakeIsle48 · 12/02/2023 00:35

I apologise for painting a grim situation but it is what it is. I've been referred to a Long covid clinic. I don't hold out much hope but maybe just may be something might come out if it.

LakeIsle48 · 12/02/2023 00:40

Let me know how you are keeping. It would be great to hear how other women are dealing with this shitfest. Thanks for reading. I really appreciate it x

Abhannmor · 12/02/2023 07:24

Good luck with the clinic @LakeIsle48 . Agus...go néirí leat leis an Gaeilge.
