Can't get through to cancel!

Been away for work meeting. About to drive back but my car has broken down. AA can't fix it (they're unable to diagnose the issue) so need to take to local garage tomorrow. Work have put me in a hotel overnight. Have an appointment with cardiology for minor surgery at 7.45 tomorrow morning. Can't get through to hospital to cancel (just rings out) and apparently their phones open at 8. What do I do? Just not show up?

Glad you have managed to get it sorted. Hope you can relax this evening now. I'm really surprised at some people's responses. Not everyone can access £100 at the drop of a hat.

EBearhug · 30/11/2022 17:27

Plenty of procedures can be quick and only take a few minutes. It's the hanging around waiting when they're running late or having to wait for paperwork after that tends to time-consuming, IME.

Hope you are feeling calmer now, OP, and that car is okay and you get a new appointment soon. Hope it's a good hotel, too!

Oh, so you HAVE cancelled it. Hmm

Also, FGS what surgery - even a MINOR one takes 10 minutes?! Confused None that I know of!

You clearly have issues with OP's posts. Why don't you just report them?

as for

How can a working adult (and a parent?) not get their hands on £100 for an emergency?

Utterly hilarious that someone can be so fucking naive.

At least read the OP's comments, ffs.

You really are tone deaf aren't you 😡

I very much doubt you really know poverty. Ffs

You know nothing about me or what I experienced growing up

OP: glad it’s fixed & sorry did not know the circumstances re your financial situation

TheShellBeach · 30/11/2022 17:28

Ellessdee · 30/11/2022 17:09

Yes I cancelled it after I started the thread. Is that OK with you?

Wow OP - I am so sorry that you've been given such a hard time on this thread.

Some people don't know how lucky they are. I've been utterly broke, too.

I would have lent you £100 by now if it was still needed. Glad you've sorted things out. Try to have a good evening and ignore the rotters on here.

reenon · 30/11/2022 17:29

For those doubting car warranties, if a car has a manufacturer warranty of eg Kia (7 years) then that warranty stays in place until the car is 7 years old regardless of how many owners.

Health Secretary….is that you????

Malbecfan · 30/11/2022 17:33

@reenon I was about to post the very same thing. DD has a Kia which my DF bought for her. The car was 22 months old and had been part-exchanged. The garage reminded DD about the 7 year warranty and even transferred unused parts of the car's service plan to her. So whoever said garages don't offer warranties of that length are talking nonsense.

Just waiting to questioned over how I could possibly pay for a car nearly 2 years ago and be utterly broke today....

VillanellesCoat · 30/11/2022 17:36

Glad you got it sorted, @Ellessdee

Thank fuck the person you spoke to at the hospital had more common sense and compassion than a lot of people on this thread!

Ourlittleharmonica · 30/11/2022 17:37

I'm glad you got it sorted, op, and I hope the procedure goes well when you can get it done. Also hope there's nothing too much wrong with the car.

Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Exactly.. I sell cars, run a second hand car business .. I'm much happier selling cars with the balance of the manufacturer warranty! (only because we give away a 6 month warranty as standard which we have to pay for...)

Anyway OP, glad you got it sorted. Fingers crossed the garage fixes it tomorrow

RiderOfTheBlue · 30/11/2022 17:38

Crikey this thread has made some people rather irate. It's perfectly possible for:
a) some people to not have access to £100
b) a cardiology procedure to take 10 mins

HJ40 · 30/11/2022 17:39

I'm glad you got it sorted out, OP.

As an aside, if someone can afford it, it's always worth paying the upgrade with the AA/RAC to the level which includes towing you home rather than only towing you to the local garage to where you break down. Situations like this are a great example of why.

I asked them about this as I didn't realise this was an add on. I asked if they could upgrade me but said I wouldn't be able to use it for 24 hours.

Anything health related gets mumsnetters in a twizzle these days.
And the lack of understanding that not everyone has a spare £100 lying around is ridiculous.
People who had savings last year have very likely spent them on energy and mortgage interest.

Notanotherwindow · 30/11/2022 17:45

I imagine what you don't know of could fill several libraries.

"......................not everyone has a spare £100 lying around"

Exactly. I can imagine myself in OP's position quite easily.
Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

CarefreeMe · 30/11/2022 17:48

I’m absolutely gutted for you OP!

But I completely understand not having £100 lying around or having anyone able to help you.

Many MNers are very privileged and don’t always understand other people’s situations which is why you’re unfortunately getting some shitty replies.

I would have done anything to keep my appointment but so would you and it’s obvious you would have exhausted every other option before cancelling.

MoominFeatures · 30/11/2022 17:51

Oh OP, so glad you got sorted. Hope your car got/gets fixed (ASAP) and you can unwind this evening after what sounds like a pretty stressful afternoon. When your procedure gets rearranged, I hope it all goes smoothly!

Take care of yourself - many of the posts on this thread are wholly inappropriate so, frankly, deserve nothing more than to be ignored. Some people are just a bit strange I reckon.

Abraxan · 30/11/2022 17:52

Jagoda · 30/11/2022 16:33

Another one here who would prioritise the appt over £100.

Where is the op supposed to magic a spare £100 from though. They've already said they don't have it spare.

Surely people can understand that not everyone has that amount of cash readily available.
