Ombudsman- feeling conflicted

going to be vague as to not be outing.

I asked the council for help fleeing DV and they didn’t do anything to help. The ombudsman found significant fault with the council and stated it was a major injustice. As a result, the ombudsman has awarded me compensation.

However to protect my identity, I asked the ombudsman to obscure some of my personal information as the exact situation is outing. They decided to not publish the decision. Aibu to ask them again to publish the decision with amendments? Although I’ve been issued compensation and have moved on in my personal life, I think the council being held publicly accountable is a good thing especially for any women who need help from them in the future. I don’t want them to brush this situation under the carpet as again, it was considered a significant fault with the council.

They've probably got a good reason as to why they aren't publishing it. Do they usually publish DV cases?

Well done on getting out Flowers

I suppose you could ask, but the issue probably is that if they say something in local media, it'll result in folks trying to find out what the case is behind the scenes, and running the risk of exposing identifying details.

Thank you both 😊

the reason why they didn’t publish it is because I said I was worried about being recognised as some of the details are outing. Eg the specific dates I left. They do usually publish all decisions on their website for public interest

So that’s why I’m okay for them to publish it if they obscure some of the details x

I do think it will gather public interest once published as it was a ridiculous fault. The amount of compensation isn’t listed anywhere.

Absolutely 100% with you that the council should be pulled up on their failure, but if folks start asking for more details when they are exposed, are you prepared for nosy folks and the like? You know what the masses are like, and they can be relentless when they want details.
