Little Elf security camera

fizzypop100 · 28/11/2022 20:28

I bought one for my mum. It faces down her garden. My brother knows her WiFi password. Can he sign in and then watch it from his phone ? I don't want him to be able to listen in on conversations.
How can I make sure it's secure ?

I honestly don't know what to say.
Do you really believe in this fecking elf in order to go down this route?
This is a joke, right?

It's a security camera?

TassLeHoff · 28/11/2022 20:37

Does your brother know it exists? If not, he's not an issue. Does it have a username and password and is it exposed to the internet? If so, change the default password at the very least otherwise complete strangers could easily gain access.

Christ alive!

autienotnaughty · 28/11/2022 20:38

@wherearebeefandonioncrisps it's a real camera it's just a brand name.

Sorry op i don't know for certain but I assume you would set an account and he would only be able to access the account if he had the password. The internet password would be irrelevant .

I think you mean 'sorry for being so rude' Hmm

If it's available outside the router (i.e. there is an external port of your router that forwards the camera to the internet for remote surveillance by, e.g., you) the internal and external passwords will be the same.

TassLeHoff · 28/11/2022 20:42

Hmm. It appears to be nothing more than a toy. As you were...

fizzypop100 · 28/11/2022 20:45

Lots of sarcasm here. I only wanted some help from anyone who has the same brand of camera

It's not a toy it's an actual security camera 😂 It is not the photo above!! I don't think grown adults are setting up elf surveillance!!

Op ignore the idiots who are taking the piss or thinking you are setting up surveillance to catch an elf! I don't have any advice but sure someone else will.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 28/11/2022 20:49

Maybe explain exactly.
Some of us were born in the dark ages and are very unconnected with real society.

MammaWeasel · 28/11/2022 20:49

Sorry, the pic and comment I posted was in response to @wherearebeefandonioncrisps who thought it was a joke.......I put that it's NOT a kids' santacam.

fizzypop100 · 28/11/2022 20:49

They are one of the main brands.

My DD has one and for me to be logged in when I'm babysitting she had to install it on my phone. It does have a different password to their wifi

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 28/11/2022 20:53

Nope. Never thought it was a joke.

I actually thought that you'd bought an ' elf on a shelf' camera for your children.
Enormous apologies if this was incorrect.

To be fair, OP wasn't that clear.

People are getting confused with the Elf on the Shelf camera, you install it in your house and your kids think Santa is watching them. You just picked the wrong time of year to ask the question!

Oldraver · 28/11/2022 20:59

I assume it works the same as my internal security cat cams. Yes it works if the wi-fi but you set it up with an email address and password

it was perfectly clear from the OP that she was talking about a security camera and not a toy.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 28/11/2022 21:02

No @angelikacpickles it wasn't , but it's because I'm thick.

TassLeHoff · 28/11/2022 21:04

Ok, so if you're able to access it remotely "live" then definitely change the default password. If it just sends movement to an email address it should be fine.

surreygirl1987 · 28/11/2022 22:14

Haha I thought this was going to be a thread on the elf on the shelf as well 😂

Danikm151 · 28/11/2022 22:22

You have to be logged in on the app and then actually sync the camera to the app for it to work,
knowing wifi wouldn’t make a difference unless it can be detected within a home network. (I set up my echo show to have the camera connected as a baby monitor)
