Why nurseries never open at the weekends?

My kids are older now but I hear my friends, some of whom work weekends, saying that they find it hard to find childcare at the weekend when they’re on shift.

why don’t nurseries open at the weekends?

The Nursery could have capped attendance to five days oer week per child.

Taking away the popular Saturdays just means those who work Saturdays are screwed again.

The problem with this was that the majority of parents using the Saturday hours weren't even working that day, they just wanted an extra day to themselves 🤷‍♀️ demand would have dwindled and they would have stopped anyway.

When my DC were small even the nursery at the hospital I worked in was only open for office hours. Utterly useless for their many shift workers.

My hospital nursery closes at 6pm I think. Most shifts finish much later!

Er, because low paid nursery workers deserve the chance to have weekends off, and often have their own DC who they like to be able to see at weekends!

You’d probably be paying more in childcare an hour than you’d be earning and so not enough parents would use them to warrant hiring the staff.

How many staff do you think want to work on weekends in a nursery? It’s hard enough to find suitable nursery staff for weekday daytime hours.

Going on that logic we should shut the country down at 5pm Friday and nothing reopens till 9am Monday because no-one wants to work weekends right 🤦‍♀️

All other workers in all other industries hate their kids though so are happy to work weekends and don't deserve any time off 🤷

For our sanity I suspect!
Seriously though, there isnt the demand for it. Also, Nurseries struggle to recruit staff 5 days a week let alone weekends.
People who need childcare of a weekend can find a nanny.

So because you work weekends, everyone else should have to?
