Boss called in sick to Christmas party

Our boss called in sick to our Christmas party. AIBU? Shouldn't he be leading by example? He has form though, he cancelled our in-office day once due to the rain, which I was actually relieved by.

He leads a team of 8, btw

Perhaps he’s leading by example by showing that it’s OK to phone in sick when you’re sick, and that health is more important than work. Wild notion.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 24/11/2022 20:47

Maybe he’s sick?

PatchworkElmer · 24/11/2022 20:47

Erm… maybe he’s not well and doesn’t want to spread it?

OneCup · 24/11/2022 20:48

Lead by example by turning up to a Christmas party?

YesItIsI · 24/11/2022 20:48

Would you rather he turned up and infected everyone with flu/cold/covid/noro etc etc?

Yabu for having your Xmas party when it's barely the end of November.

This!

CloudyYellow · 24/11/2022 20:48

What is wrong with you? If he is sick what is it to you? Unbelievable.

Whoputtheramintheramalamadingdong · 24/11/2022 20:49

Good grief I would too - ridiculously early for a Christmas party, not festive at all!

Auntieobem · 24/11/2022 20:49

He is not unreasonable for not turning up to a Christmas party in November

Batshittery · 24/11/2022 20:50

YABU. How is attending a Christmas party leading by example? Confused

Leading the conga line?

Theunamedcat · 24/11/2022 20:51

It's November

Maybe you all smell

Maybe he spends too much time with you anyway

Are partners invited? Maybe they have a jealous one?

Maybe, just Maybe they are sick

monsteronahill · 24/11/2022 20:52

Leading by example? If he's ill he's ill, I think it's great he's leading my example and showing it's okay to be ill and prioritise your health over just showing up for the sake of it.

SavingKitten · 24/11/2022 20:52

He’s sick and you clearly don’t like him anyway. Sounds like you’ve both had a lucky escape!

He sounds like a wise old owl if your attitude is anything to go by

ohyouknowwhatshername · 24/11/2022 20:56

Why are you assuming he's not really sick?

MiniCooperLover · 24/11/2022 20:56

Does his not being there mean it can't go ahead? If not maybe he just doesn't enjoy spending time with you all. Or he was, you know, just unwell 🤷‍♀️

DNAwrangler · 24/11/2022 20:56

must be a reverse surely. Who would be annoyed that a sick person stayed away from them?! Or do you think he’s pretending OP? Tell the whole story.

silverclock222 · 24/11/2022 21:02

Given you feel the need to create a post about it, no wonder they called in sick!

Claudia84 · 24/11/2022 21:03

Does your boss come with the company credit card?
That's the only reason I'd be annoyed that they didn't show up. No free drinks.

Hoolihan · 24/11/2022 21:05

Maybe he couldn't bear the thought of socialising with you.

LaughingCat · 24/11/2022 21:06

Erm…I’m the boss in my team and it looks as though I may have to miss our Christmas party to move house. I didn’t think that was a bad thing - there’ll be other jollies. Your boss is actually ill at home, trying not to pass it to all of you and you think they’re setting a bad example?! Christ, I’ve heard of unreasonable bosses but rarely unreasonable staff 😂

Loics · 24/11/2022 21:06

I admire him!
