My top one is the phrase “Up to 40% off”, oh right so that’s 5% of 95% of your stuff and 40% off sun hats then - thanks!

That it encourages people to buy stuff they don't need.

If people buy stuff they don't need just because it's on sale, the issue is with them tbh...

Not like we have proper aales this year anywa

Asher33 · 24/11/2022 19:33

That it exists

Same

Retailers claiming that an item has been reduced by 50% when it was actually cheaper a few weeks ago and will be back to the original price in January. I don't buy unless I know it is something that is a genuine bargain and something that I will be buying anyway for Christmas.

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 24/11/2022 19:58

The day after being thankful for what we have, people go out and get trampled and fight for all the things they still want...
Black Friday sales are great for savings but the juxtaposition kind of cheapens the thankfulness to me!

DeePlume · 24/11/2022 20:01

All of the above.

XenoBitch · 24/11/2022 20:03

This pissed me off... Meta/Oculus never did BF sales. They are this year, but they did increase the prices of their headsets by £100 back in August. People buying one think they are getting a deal. Not really.

Notavailablesadly · 24/11/2022 20:03

What @Asher33 said.

It stirs up greedy feelings and I don't like that

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 24/11/2022 20:04

Not Black Friday specifically, but shops have lost sight of the meaning of 'sale'. What it now means is that an item will be at an inflated price for the minimum number of days and in the minimum number of stores that legally allow the shop to say it has been discounted, and then put 'on sale' at what is actually the normal price. Check the small print - it will say 'was on sale at higher price from 20.10.2022 - 02.11.2022' or whatever the minimum period is.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/11/2022 20:07

That as a small independent retailer I don’t have the purchasing power to compete and my sales drop off dramatically.

OneFrenchEgg · 24/11/2022 20:08

I don't think there are proper sales anymore except for after Christmas when party dress and themed gifts are discounted.

Staggersaurus · 24/11/2022 20:11

I hate that it screws things up for small independent businesses who can’t afford to give big discounts.

thistimelastweek · 24/11/2022 20:14

It's just another face of consumerism.

FatOaf · 24/11/2022 20:18

What annoys you about Black Friday?

That people who don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November believe there's something significant about the following day.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 24/11/2022 20:21

That here in the UK we have mis-approriated the name of the sales event "Black Friday" and applied to an entire month of sales. What's wrong with calling it a "seasonal sale" or a "pre-Christmas sale"? Why do we have to use the US name - is it because Amazon introduced the idea over here, and didn't want to change their marketing premise? Cultural appropriation ... [/soapbox]

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 24/11/2022 20:22

With all respect to America, It’s American. We’ll soon be celebrating July 4th and the Battle of the Alamo at this rate.

Relentless Black Friday emails for an entire month, clogging up your inbox.

The so-called discounts are shite.

There’s too much stuff in the world anyway.

browneyes77 · 24/11/2022 21:19

That’s it’s not even on a Friday in the UK, because retailers are selling things in “Black Friday events” that span across several days…🙄

You live month to month like that? Not even a few hundred as "float" in the bank so you don't need to overthink the timing of things?

Good we are lucky to have £20 at this stage.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2022 22:13

Not being able to find clothes that are my size in the sales.

SpinningFloppa · 24/11/2022 22:13

We went to tobys yesterday as they was doing a “Black Friday special” but only available Tuesday - Thursday heard someone complaining it’s “Black Friday” but can’t get the deal on the actual black Friday 🤦🏻

stargirl1701 · 24/11/2022 23:47

That I see it the UK when it belongs in the USA.

serenaisaknobhead · 25/11/2022 00:00

That it isnt just one day.

dutysuite · 25/11/2022 00:03

The deals are crap, or the discounts are on everything they haven’t been able to shift -basically all the shite. Only ever size 3 shoes available.

Shouldershoddy · 25/11/2022 00:08

My children wait until Black Friday to request their presents! When they were little people I had everything wrapped up by now!
