What would you do

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and baby has measured small (3rd percentile) since the 20 week scan. I'm under fetal medicine for growth scans every 3 weeks.

Last time the sonographer said baby had moved up to 6th percentile so I was really happy, but this appointment the consultant asked to speak with me and said that was wrong, baby is actually now under the 3rd percentile and whereas everything is most likely fine they can't rule out any rare genetic problems.

She said I could do an amnio but doesn't recommend because of the risk of premature labour and stillbirth. I would need to be on bed rest after and there's no way I could do that with my other children and no support or funds for babysitting. But I want to do the amnio because I would not have a baby with a rare condition - it would affect the baby and also my other children, and I don't have the resources.

So I'm up at 3am wondering - what would you do?

@Roseinbloom20 I’m so sorry you had the same experience and that’s good to know about the small risk.

I really don’t understand why they wouldn’t do the investigations first rather than say everything is ok and then randomly spring this on people.

After every scan they would just say ‘she’s growing, the measurements are increasing’ - which, obviously, the scans are three weeks apart, but she was was dropping percentiles.

Even the consultant I spoke to was quoting the wrong measurements, saying ‘her head is on the 10th, her abdomen is on the 20th’, which I only know is wrong because I specifically asked for the scan notes and percentiles.

The whole experience has just been so worrying and frustrating and I’m really upset I feel like I was lured into a false sense of security that everything was fine and improving when it wasn’t.

Anyway I will update the thread as soon as I have my consultation 💗

I had amino on my last three for personal reasons . My consultant said he had never lost a baby following the procedure.

I only had to take it easy for that one day . How much bed rest were you told you needed ?

Good luck

Thank you, that’s good to hear. She didn’t say specifically, because she was against doing it, just said I would need to be on bed rest after because of the risk of premature labour.
