Worried about a lump

Hi- I hope it’s ok to post here. I have an consultation booked already to get it checked but can’t sleep tonight as my mind is working overdrive.

i found a lump on the back of my head. It’s near the back of my skull, just to the right of where it feels a bit squishy and becomes my neck. It feels like it’s on the part of my skull that is curving under and becoming my neck. It’s to the right of the muscles in my neck. I can’t tell if it’s just a blood vessel or lymph node or other harmless lump. It feels hard and a little painful to touch, it’s not agonising but it’s a bit uncomfortable and aching when I press it. I also don’t know if it’s just a normal part of my bumpy skull (it’s a bit wonky all over) although I feel like I probably would have noticed it before now if it were, although it’s also possible that I’ve just never noticed it before and actually it’s not a new lump.

i have been getting a lot of migraine recently- it’s something I’ve had for years but it’s become noticeably worse over the last couple of months. I feel like I’m constantly complaining that I have a migraine, or that I feel nauseous, or both. I recently had an eye test and everything was clear thankfully so I put the extra and worse migraines down to work stress. The pain is always in the same place- behind my right eye and across my right forehead and temple area. Pressing the lump actually makes the migraine worse even though it’s in a different place, although that could just be me worrying about it.

as I said, I already have a consultation to get it checked, but my mind is working overdrive tonight and I have a terrible migraine which is adding to the stress. I know nobody can diagnose or advice over the internet so I’m just posting to see if anyone has experience or knowledge of this.

TIA xo

Sorry you are going through this Madnessovermagic. I am not an expert but did have a scare over a lump in my neck a few years ago. I remember being so worried at the time and being terrified waiting for the test results.
It turned out just to be a benign fatty lump.
You are doing the right thing in getting checked out.

Its not just a large vertebrae? I have a huge one at the base of my skull, it really freaked me out until a physio told me what it actually was!

There are lymph nodes there. I had one come up there when I had shingles on my head.

It’s probably just that you’ve a virus or something. If I were you I’d try not to worry about it and check again in a few days or a week- it probably will have gone. If it hasn’t and you’re worried you can ask a doctor

It being painful to touch is a good sign. It’s normal to be lump and bumpy there. By all means get checked out but I don’t see anything concerning there

I’ve had something v similar and as a pomp mentioned it was a lymph node. It just went back down again and has popped back up a couple of times since - don’t panic!!

Oh and touching the lump causing a headache means nothing. I get a recurring spot on my chin and when I touch it, I feel the pain in my right big toe! The nervous system is weird.

*PP not pomp

My experience wasn’t the same but I’m hoping it helps you think it might be a lymph node. I had a lump come up behind my ear (sort of behind my lobe) and it didn’t go down for a couple of weeks.
It was rock hard though almost like a bone so off to the GP I went. I said I thought it was a lymph node she told me she didn’t think it was as they’re usually squishy so sent me for a scan. The scan showed it was an enlarged lymph node and 6 months later it’s still there. If I get a cold or anything it flares up twice the size and then goes back down to ‘normal’ which is still bigger than my thumbnail and raised.
