Is this normal?

DD10 school emailed confirming dates for parent teacher consultations.
Later emailed saying booking was open Mon-Fr.

Logged on on Tuesday to book and all appts completely booked up. Emailed school to find out if something was wrong with the site as I (perhaps naively??) assumed that they would have 32 appointments to allow to meet 32 parents for their 32 kids in the class.

No, they only have 26 appointments available and so everyone else will only be allowed a phonecall, and no chance to see workbooks/have face to face appointment.

Is this normal for primary schools or is this a bit bananas??

A bit weird not to have enough spaces but also why did you wait until tues to log on if it went live monday? Anything school related you have to be on asap to get slots etc, this is well known in pretty much every school

BertieQueen · 23/11/2022 21:40

Every primary school I have dealt with have enough appointments for every parent to come in and see books and meet the teacher.

secondary schools it’s different.

Not normal at all and not something I've ever heard of in all my years of teaching. Confused

I mean it's one thing to offer a phonecall if that works better for the parents but not to offer an appointment to see the parent/carer of all the kids in the class is very odd.

carefulcalculator · 23/11/2022 21:41

That's ridiculous, I would ask for a different appointment.

FreezyWater · 23/11/2022 21:46

I was travelling for work on Monday so didn't get home until very late. Tuesday was the first chance I got. I guess I assumed that as booking was open Mon-Fri there would be time!

I did do this but they are on a job share and apparently the other teacher doesn't do parents evening 😕

I'd raise it with the head, that is not OK.

Well isn't the other teacher a peach how lovely of her to leave it all to her job share.

Surely if there are 2 of them that makes it even easier. If each has half they still have less appointments than a full time teacher with a class full of kids and then everyone gets to speak about their child's progression in person.

triedeyes · 23/11/2022 21:55

Not normal in my experience. Everyone should get an appointment. You might not get the time you want but there should be an appointment for everyone.

FreezyWater · 24/11/2022 11:53

Recieved three different emails this morning but eventually recieved a face to face appointment at a time that was already booked.... So either they've cancelled someone else or they've double booked and are going to be late?!! Beyond me 😂
