To think Royal Mail are useless?

In the last few weeks I’ve had three items vanish into a Royal Mail black hole.

Parcel 1 send via 48hr tracked on 31 October and still hasn’t arrived.

Parcel 2 send on 15 November also via 48hr and still hasn’t arrived.

Parcel 3 send via 24hr tracked on 18 November and still hasn’t arrived.

Same old message on the RM tracking website for days, that’s when it’s actually working!

It’s a sad time when Evri can deliver more quickly and competently than the Mail service.

I have the opposite! RM tracked 48 parcels delivered within 24 hours, Special Delivery delivered on a Saturday when didn't pay extra for Saturday delivery. On the other hand a package being delivered by evri was guaranteed by Sunday (paid extra for express shipping) and still waiting for it..... Apparently it was sent to the wrong depot.....

AriettyHomily · 23/11/2022 10:15

They are shit, I don't use RM at all anymore. The strikes aren't going to do them any favours. Evri have sorted their game out here and I use Inpost too, they're geat.

Reaqc · 23/11/2022 10:17

I've never had a problem with royal mail, always quick to deliver and the local postie always chaps the door to hand over stuff vs the evri throw it at the garden gate approach and let it sit in the rain until the email notification comes in hours late telling you it's there.

Evri is the absolute worst, on the plus side I've had loads of free parcels because of them, they've been declared missing, got a refund and then turned up thrown at the gate between 2 to 4 weeks after the refund and the companies have said to keep it or recently booked in an evri pick up to send back a parcel and they didn't pick up 3 weeks in a row 🤷‍♀️ so again the company was like keep it, as they couldn't get evri to actually turn up.

I could write books on the uselessness of evri 😂

Wisterical · 23/11/2022 10:20

How frustrating. You’ve been very unlucky. I’ve posted many hundreds of parcels over the past year, UK and to the US/Canada. I use 1st Class Signed For and International Tracked and only once has a parcel gone missing, tracking says it was stuck in Nashville Sorting Office, and Royal Mail fully refunded me within days. I think it’s a brilliant service!

Iheartmysmart · 23/11/2022 10:23

These are parcels which have been sent to me so I’ve had no control over how they’ve been sent. I’m actually starting to avoid companies who dispatch via RM now.

My Evri courier is amazing. She will text me if I’m not in and ask when I’ll be home so she can drop off my parcel. If she sees me out walking with the dog and she has a delivery then she’ll ask when we’ll be back. Really goes over and above.

Postie on the other hand doesn’t even ring the doorbell, just sticks a card through the letterbox meaning I have to traipse to the sorting office which is open for a couple of hours twice a week.

RM are currently in dispute with the post office, I had to take a parcel to the sorting office as two post offices refused to take it.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 23/11/2022 10:27

They are all equally useless/decent depending on the local postie/courier and the local sorting office/depot

It's just luck

ChocoFudge · 23/11/2022 10:27

Agreed, they're absolutely useless at the moment. I'll be using Evri for parcels in the future.

GasPanic · 23/11/2022 10:28

You have to use a service consistent with the importance/value of the delivery.

Special delivery is pretty good - I have never had one fail, but overall my experience of other Royal Fail services is pretty poor, especially Parcel Farce.

DHL and UPS are the only people I trust with important stuff.

girlmom21 · 23/11/2022 10:31

Contact the senders. They should be dealing with RM, not you.

MRIELA · 23/11/2022 10:32

Evri is the worst in my area, 8/10 arrive either 3 weeks later or never at all.

Abzs · 23/11/2022 10:35

My local posties are amazing. The sorting office was flooded on Friday night so they're working out of the next town and still getting all the rounds done. I posted a letter first class Monday afternoon and it was delivered 400 miles away the next morning.
Gatwick Mail Centre on the other hand held a 24hr parcel of mine for three days before going on strike for two more. Once it was out of there it moved exactly as it should.
Since Evri became Evri many of our local drivers have quit. They used to be excellent, but now there's 600 parcels sitting in the depot on the other side of the county and one poor guy left struggling.

pimlicoanna · 23/11/2022 10:45

I have the opposite experience. Evri is beyond crap and I have never had a problem with Royal Mail.

IamnotSethRogan · 23/11/2022 10:48

All my royal mail parcels come through no problem. With yodel and evri recently they've had my parcels for weeks and not delivered them or changed the tracking. In my experience in speaks volumes that royal mail can deliver more efficiently when in the middle of a national strike than all the others. We order a lot of stuff from adidas purely on the basis they use royal mail.

Cornishmarketingtithead · 23/11/2022 10:50

The RM are superb. Its Evri who are next level shite here.

I'll always pay extra for the Royal Mail service.

halofern · 23/11/2022 10:51

Evri/Hermes are a pile of shit and always have been. Lost/stolen parcels, parcels put in bins, parcels delivered to the wrong places constantly, rude delivery people etc. You seem to be very keen on Evri here...

I've never had any issues with RM. My local posties are great and always knock or leave next door. My husband is also a postie and they are working very bloody hard at the moment for shit pay, in shit conditions, understaffed and with a shit CEO who goes from company to company destroying them from within.

Evri/Hermes are a okie of shit and always have been. Lost/stolen parcels, parcels put in bins, parcels delivered to the wrong streets constantly, terrible customer service, rude delivery people etc. You seem to be very keen on Evri, a notoriously bad company, when there are other options available.

I've never had any issues with RM. They've never lost a parcel I've sent from my small business 24hour & 48hour tracked. My local posties are great, always knock or leave next door. My husband is also a postie and they're working bloody hard at the moment in shit conditions, for shit pay, understaffed with a shit CEO who goes from company to company destroying from within, who also told them to rip up all their terms and conditions.

It's a sad time when Evri Can deliver more quickly and competently than the Mail service.

I cannot believe this is a genuine thread with this comment to be honest.

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 10:52

Contact the senders. I think they can seek compensation.

The strike days might be different though.

My service from Royal mail has been excellent with items often arriving before they are meant to so I imagine it is area dependent.

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 10:53

My Evri people are brilliant too. No issues.

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 10:53

Yodel however..

Beees · 23/11/2022 10:54

I cannot believe this is a genuine thread with this comment to be honest.

Why not? RM where I am are just as poor as the OPs experience and I too have never had an issue with Hermes/Evri. Everyone's experience is different but the OP is certainly not alone in her experiences.

RoachTheHorse · 23/11/2022 10:56

My Evri delivery chap is great. We're on first name terms and I really rate him.

Our postie is too, he despairs at the state of Royal Mail.

thelobsterquadrille · 23/11/2022 10:58

I've used RM for my business for two years and I've only ever had one parcel not arrive on time.

WhiskersPete · 23/11/2022 11:04

Maybe privatisation isn't the answer after all.

Iheartmysmart · 23/11/2022 11:05

@halofern Not quite sure why you don’t think this is genuine!

Just for balance though as you seem to think I’m biased towards that particular company. UPS didn’t even ring my doorbell, just took the parcel straight to the local collection point. DPD always great and deliver within the hour time slot given. Amazon can be a bit hit and miss.
