Can alarm going off all night ..

Bagpuss2022 · 23/11/2022 03:43

We live in a tiny culdesac 8 houses DH has a works van and the alarm on it has gone off 9 times since 11pm.
we get up straight away to turn it off but there’s no way of disabling it tired leaving it unlocked but it just locks itself after a certain time and the bloody alarm keeps going off.
The neighbours are going to hate us but nothing we can do he’s been out had a look checked all doors etc,
he’s going to take it in to the contracted garage tomorrow I said he can’t bring it back till it’s fixed!
He works for a major firm so shouldn’t be a problem but what a nightmare.
should I take wine round to all the neighbours tomorrow? I feel awful

Don't feel awful. It's a once off, just one of those things that sometimes occur as a consequence of not embracing hermit life. Your neighbours probably are fuming, but they will have forgotten all about it by this time tomorrow night.

Such is life.

Can you disconnect the van battery?

StopMakingAppointments · 23/11/2022 03:56

Oh dear - it is really annoying but sounds like there isn't much you can do! Just respond to it as quickly as you can each time it starts and apologise to them in the morning. If you're apologetic and explain what you tried and that you're now getting it fixed I'm sure they will understand.

Conkersareback · 23/11/2022 04:16

Oh dear, this happened to my BIL, also a work van. Neighbours were very understanding.

Grey23 · 23/11/2022 05:45

I'd get 8 bottles or wine or chocs and apologise. Say its going to be fixed. I'd do anything to keep on good terms with my neighbours.

Fuuuuuckit · 23/11/2022 06:11

Are you my neighbour?

Fortunately they've moved recently, but one of my neighbours (12 houses in our cul de sac) has a clapped out old van with a faulty alarm. I'd been making a note for the council noise team as it was going off all night for MONTHS. AWFUL.

If you can stretch to it, a bottle of wine/chocs would be lovely, but if its not going to happen again then a simple apology would go down really well.

(as an aside, we have a covenent on our houses that says no work vans allowed to be parked outside, it's a looooong road to go down for a civil matter but just a thought if the noise continues your neighbours could have means of making him park elsewhere)

girlmom21 · 23/11/2022 06:24

I'd have told him to take it to a nearby car park or somewhere less built up and leave it there for the night. I'd be really annoyed.

jimmyhill · 23/11/2022 06:33

Take it elsewhere. Leave it unlocked. Disconnect battery.

Three obvious options.

Mumdiva99 · 23/11/2022 06:38

A simple apology for one night of disturbance goes a long way. As does the knowledge you are taking it to be fixed and tonight will be better. No need to spend cash.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 23/11/2022 06:47

Couldn't you have brought the van contents inside and left it unlocked?

jetadore · 23/11/2022 07:29

Worse things happen at sea. Just go round and say “sorry about that” no need for over dramatic chocolates and wine.

Bagpuss2022 · 23/11/2022 09:00

He took it at 5am and went to work early it will be going in the garage today and he will
have a hire van so definitely a one off.
he tried leaving it unlocked it has a safe inside for the expensive tools but it self locks after a certain time.
Zero sleep for me and probably some of my neighbours spoke to one already she just laughed it off.
Will pop round later after they are back from
work such a small street know peoples movements quite well as I’m the only one not working. And am the streets unofficial parcel lady

FairyLightAddict · 23/11/2022 09:37

As a one off I wouldn't be angry. And I'd really appreciate a bottle of wine.

Bagpuss2022 · 23/11/2022 17:14

Wine delivered only one set were funny about it but good news got a replacement van whilst it gets fixed so hopefully a full nights sleep for the whole street tonight

Well no one is going to want to piss off the streets parcel lady. I take you are the only one there during the day so I think your safe.
