FFS - the Coping Classes. I understand something quie different by 'coping'.

emkana · 30/01/2008 23:28

Get this: "Sending your child to the local primary and sink comprehensive is a risky strategy, however. He might well end up on a fast-track to Oxbridge, thanks to his outstandingly humble state education. Then again, he might equally emerge barely literate. That's the one of the many prices the Coping Classes have to pay."

Oh yes, these... gulp... state schools, don't you know. They are satch awful places.

FFS, get a life.

dingdong05 · 30/01/2008 23:31

Hmm, well, at least the family themselves weren't moaning.
Interesting choice of subjects though, considering those kids aren't in a boarding school because comps are so bad but because it's closer to a good swimming pool... hardly helps make the point does it? lol

VeniVidiVetoQV · 30/01/2008 23:32

Arf at your pun

ladylush · 30/01/2008 23:32

I actually thought it was meant tongue in cheek (coping classes) - what a load of shite.

southeastastra · 30/01/2008 23:33

god i wish they would ban the use of 'sink' and 'bog'. i heard all the russians were leaving the uk anyway.

Coping classes my @rse.

Did you see this quote, on the last page...

"I do resent the fact that we pay taxes for the state school system even though we're not using it because I've seen the sort of unmotivated children it produces."

Tell me, AIBU in wanting to shoot that woman?

georgedontdothat · 31/01/2008 09:16

'At King Edward's, a high-achieving day school in Birmingham where fees are £8,500 a year, the bursary scheme has been redrawn so that the maximum household income at which a family can get support is now £68,000, up from £42,000.'

bloody hell. how can they be struggling on 68 grand!

georgedontdothat · 31/01/2008 09:21

Awww bless she can't get sky TV should we start a collection for her ? I bet she never has to worry about when the dc need new shoes .

margoandjerry · 31/01/2008 09:23

what a silly bitch. I do resent paying for other people's children to be educated. God, it's so draining. Honestly, I don't know how I cope.

LOLOL NONCE

Alambil · 31/01/2008 09:26

oh FFS! These families need to be stripped of their income for a few months; THEN they will know hardship.

People like this wind me up so much (also overwrought today!)

Alambil · 31/01/2008 09:27

PS, YANBU!

UnquietDad · 31/01/2008 09:27

I'd love to put them in a reality TV show - swap them with a sink-estate family for 6 months...

they dont HAVE to; its like saying they haev a cocaine habit to feed.

CaptainCod · 31/01/2008 09:29

if THEY snet TEHIR kids to state schools then htese everyhting woud even out imo.

Swedes · 31/01/2008 09:30

That's a poor article. The State school quota thing is unaccurate in the case of Oxbridge. The Government have asked them to up their State school numbers and as far as I'm aware they have refused, saying that they will continue to select entirely on merit. They have, however, agreed to try and do more to get State school pupils to apply.
