Sadly my DDad passed away earlier on this year and then his DSister passed away the day before his funeral.
At my Dads funeral, my DP asked if one of the men there was my Dads brother. I told him that my DD brothers had both passed away a few years ago. With all the emotion of the funeral, I didn't think any more of it and the man in question left straight after the service.
At my Auntie's funeral, I was stood taking with my DM and 2 brothers waiting to go in. My DB suddenly stopped talking and looked really shocked and like he'd seen a ghost. We all looked up and there's this man who DP mistook for my DDads brother. He looked exactly like my Dad! Same mannerisms and dressed similar also. It was quite unsettling, especially since we were at the same Chapel as where my Dads service was held only 2 weeks before.
I wanted to go and say hello and politely ask how he knew my DDad and DA but he was in conversation and my DB was worried it would open a can of worms!
I didn't feel like I could ask my Auntie as she's 97. My DM found out he had lived next door to my DDad when they were children but she had never heard him being mentioned or seen him at any family parties etc (my DDad was 76 when he passed away and 2nd youngest of 7 and this man was mid 70's I'd guess). My DDads Dad did apparently have a reputation.
I suddenly can't stop thinking about it! I think it's because my family is shrinking rapidly plus I've been researching my family tree and have ordered a DNA kit but also he just looked so like my DDad and his DB. Surely it can't be a coincidence and why was he at both funerals!? I'm not even sure what I'd do with the information if I found out he was my DDads half DB.
Do I just forget about it? I have a feeling he'll be at my DA funeral when the time comes.
