Identifies as a female

I have a genuine question.
this is a job application that requires personal care for a woman.

Is "identifies as a female" now allowed?
Does somebody that genuinely has a penis that identifies as a female not allowed to be refused on that basis?

Found the job ad. Went into a link for further details about the requirements and found this

“Comfortable working in an environment where LGBTQ+, anti-racism, environmental and disability activism are taking place”

Could explain the wording.*

That may be the companies policy rather than the individual receiving the care.
If the person receiving the care had no objection to either a male of female providing that care then there would be no need to specify.

I don’t think it’s the companies policy, but the person who wants the PA. There was also something about applicants having to submit a photo.

This type of crap makes me seethe. While they're scoring their 'woke' points vulnerable women and children are put at risk. The EA is clear but it is deliberately being misinterpreted, if you haven't already please sign the petition and share it to get more signatures, the link takes you to the petition's page on MN, the link there takes you to the actual petition

I hope someone who knows the law is advocating for the person in this Ad. By which I mean, there is someone out there who needs intimate, personal care and may not know, or may be being told, that they have no right to ask for female-only care. Or even worse, that they are being a dreadful bigot for expecting such a thing and need to get with the times.

The organisation needs to be spoken with immediately. I hope they're not in Scotland because they are definitely second in line in terms of priorities to the vulnerable trans woman care-giver that needs their identity validated. Far more important not to upset them than meet the needs of the person needing care.

Chances are this client will not come into contact with a trans woman care-giver. Chances of this happening will definitely increase once the GRA Reform is passed in Scotland, if this client is living in Scotland.

For now, at least, being non-binary isn't clouding the issue. No mention of that in the Ad.

It's a very sad state of affairs and if it was my daughter, sister, mother I would be raging.

Ugh. An obvious point, and one I'd have hoped we should have moved beyond. I should have thought of this one, shouldn't I?

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

Usually followed with a " i thought you wanted equality "

Once again the solution is not to add, a recruitment drive for men in the industry, crushing stereotypes that insinuate caring roles are for women, to ensure men can be cared for with the dignity they deserve too.

Its to take away. Remove womens ability to receive same sex care.

As usual women have to solve mens problems for them before being allowed to utilise the solutions women already came up with for their own.

Oh ffs. At what point did the right of a vulnerable woman needing intimate help that she was comfortable with get discounted for pandering to this crap?

The moment TRAs demanded it

Rowthe · 22/11/2022 16:32

I wouldn't employ anyone that was a man for this job.

Even if the care company awarded them the job.

KittieDaley · 22/11/2022 16:33

So fed up with all this rubbish now.

TwinklingStarlight · 22/11/2022 16:38

As OP says, it's a very specific ad. I wonder if the person being cared for might be trans.
