Not really AIBU, sorry, posting for a bit of traffic. Years ago I paid for a make up lesson with MAC and you could redeem the cost of the lesson against any products you bought.

I’ve now aged a bit and want to do another, as I think I’m using and doing things that look a bit dated and aren’t right for my skin. But wondering where to go to? MAC again or someone else? Am in my forties. Could anyone recommend their fave brand or if they’ve done this and has a good experience?

I would choose Bobbi Brown in these circumstances

Thanks! Any other recommendations out there?

I would also recommend Bobbi Brown. Their make up lessons are free (or were, not been for a while) but I also find that if you turn up at a counter and say what you want they will spend a lot of time with you with no obligation to buy.

In my experience (limited as it may be!) MAC products seem to be on the heavier side. Full coverage, night out or special occasion kind of make up. Full coverage tends to sit badly on the skin once we’re past 30ish, as it sinks and creases in every pore and wrinkle.
Charlotte Tilbury is really lovely, lighter and more ‘transparent’ feeling. I’m not sure about make up classes with them but would be worth looking up.

I did a Charlotte tilbury one earlier this year to prepare for doing my own wedding make up. I can’t remember exactly how much but i think maybe £60 and you got that back as credit to spend on products. I was really impressed with it,‘good advice and no pressure to buy

I did a Liz Earle one a few years ago
Also did a paid private makeup lesson with a woman in Kingston - about ten years agol I'd been unwell and hadn't used make up in a few years.

Another recommendation for Bobbi Brown!

Bobbi brown is good, they do a few different ones. But if you can afford it I would maybe go and have a proper lesson within a make up artist
