Alternative Xmas day meal

So it’s just me, DH and DC (5) for Xmas lunch this year. I want an alternative Xmas meal. What would you have if you could have anything for Xmas day? Starter, main and pud!

Crayfish salad, venison with beetroot and blackberries, Eton mess 😋

I would choose a Chinese/Thai/Japanese takeaway but, sadly, despite all of the many posts on Mumsnet about local takeaways being open, mine most certainly aren't!
Otherwise, I would have something fishy as a starter, rib of beef and all the trimmings for main, followed by cheese and biscuits.
With a 5 year old, I would probably have done roast chicken, followed by loads of different ice creams and/or a Yule log.
This year, I am going out to a vegan restaurant!

Indian takeaway with lots of sides then put Christmas Colin for pudding. I m not fussed on roasts, even Xmas dinner but it’s DHs favourite meal of the year and he cooks it all so I wouldn’t take that away from him! Jealous of your alternative plans though!

I’m doing Moroccan spiced lamb in the slow cooker for the meatetarians, halloumi for the vegetarians (maybe tartlets), roasted peppers etc with a mix of couscous and herby potatoes. Probably chocolate brownies and ice cream for pudding but I think the above suggestion if Eton mess is a good one!

Mmmm these sound lovely! Would love to go out to a Vegan restaurant. Prices are crazy here for Xmas day though. Love the ice cream / brownie dessert option.

I’m also thinking of doing breakfast as the really special meal and lunch as just a fancy ish lunch. I’m thinking cava / Buck’s Fizz, tropical fruit salad, crossiant, gorgeous jams etc on a really dressed table. That’s more appealing for me I think!

I’d have a fancy breakfast (possibly including smoked salmon and avocado on toast) then a baked Camembert with crusty bread for lunch and party/buffet food for dinner.

Ooh if I did breakfast/brunch as the big meal I’d have to add smoked salmon and scrambled egg with a big fat dollop of creme fraiche and snipped chives, delish 🤤

Oooo @SerenaTee that sounds an amazing follow up lunch! Might add that in. Lovely warm crusty bread to dip in 😋

Doing my main meal Christmas Eve as I want to graze Christmas Day. So salmon with cream cheese in it then giant prawns later then two hours later roast beef with veg pudding lemon cheesecake then cheese and biscuits. (Doing this over the whole day) Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs breakfast Christmas Day. Then buffet stuff all day.

We have a Christmas pie from Turners. So good! Kids have Colin and I'll probably do a passionfruit meringue pie! Dinner is cheese!
