To think my neighbours are the problem?

I live in a terrace, sound proofing is really good eg my neighbours the right side I've never heard a peep from despite 2 adults and 4 kids and their normal family life.

Left side are awful. I can't hear their normal noise, I know they have screaming rows etc and I don't hear it. I do however hear their music, my whole house shakes from the base. I do hear the screaming rows they have outside, the sound of him attacking her. I hear the police who are here every single week etc. They have 3 teenagers and 2 are being arrested constantly. I'm fairly confident you can't hear noise through the walls, just when windows are open, vibrations or when it is outside. If my kids play in the garden, not squealing or anything other than giggling and chatting the neighbours blast music full of graphic language.

I have a dog, a weirdly quiet dog, the only time he ever barks is when he sees another dog through the window. When I go out I ensure blinds are shut and check in on my camera routinely. I left my house 2.25pm for school run. I returned 3.25pm. I realised instantly I'd left the blind open and window was ajar.

Neighbour came out swearing at me because my dog had barked and it was doing his "fucking head in". I've looked back on my camera. At 2.57pm they walked past my house with their dog and my dog did go nuts. He went quiet at 3.01pm. At 3.04pm neighbour came back past with the dog and of course he barked again. This time he stopped 3.09pm. 2.25 - 2.57, 3.09 - 3.25pm he didn't make a sound and he didn't bark at us arriving back home as he doesn't. He doesn't bark during the day unless dog goes past and when I'm in I just distract so its maybe 3 woofs. I rarely forget to shut the blind when i go out for a school run. He doesn't even bark at the postmen/deliveries.

I feel sick after the confrontation. I also feel like they are going to use it to justify their behaviour. I'm upset at the swearing at me in front of my two young children and how much they do but the one time I actually make some noise he acts the way he does.

Am I in the wrong?

Poor you. I’m not sure what you can do tbh. They don’t sound like a family you can reason with.

YANBU. The music situation sounds like a nightmare and can't be good for their poor dogs ears Sad Could you report them to the council for antisocial noise?

Lou197 · 18/11/2022 17:00

Not at all, some neighbours are just horrible people. Have a glass of wine, cuddle your dog and forget about it.

808Kate1 · 18/11/2022 17:16

Your neighbours are arseholes. I suppose it's easy for us to tell you to ignore or forget about them when in reality it's not that easy. Are they owners or tenants? If the latter, could you speak to their landlord? Otherwise as PP said, report to council for antisocial behaviour.

OnlyFannys · 18/11/2022 17:21

You are not remotely unreasonable but they dont sound the type to reason with

Atethehalloweenchocs · 18/11/2022 17:31

I am so sorry, that is horrible for you. They are obviously really anti social and I know from experience how miserable that can be.

Blinky21 · 18/11/2022 17:55

You should make a noise complaint to your local authority about the bass, if your neighbours threaten you then report them to the police. It may mean it gets worse before it gets better, but in my experience it works. If they rent or are HA tenants then there's a chance they will be evicted based on repeated complaints. Are there other neighbours who would also complain
