To be annoyed cleaner opens the window...

....because of Covid. I ventilate when the office is busier later in the day but early morning it's just me in and it's cold.

But the cleaner walks in and opens the windows. I'm sure she wouldn't do that to the MD sitting in his office.

She popped back in one day and gave me a dirty look as I had shut them. I've already told her that I open them later.

I know I need to just tell her not to open them but I think she's going to answer back and it'll all be very awkward.

What to say?

I'd rather you didn't open the windows please. Ta

Redhop · 17/11/2022 22:07

Yanbu. Covid has finished now

SavingKitten · 17/11/2022 22:07

Just say don’t open them! Who cares if it’s awkward, it’s daft.

Jibo · 17/11/2022 22:09

YABU.

Maybe you smell?

CheshireCats · 17/11/2022 22:09

Wanting ventilation while she works is very reasonable. As well as Covid ventilation, cleaning is hot work.
You are the one being unreasonable.

Stichintime · 17/11/2022 22:10

Probably been told to as part of her job. Can't you close them onces she's gone?

mondaytosunday · 17/11/2022 22:11

Is it because of covid? Or does the office smell stale and need airing? Maybe this is what she has been told to do.

Rarrrarrrarrbumdiay · 17/11/2022 22:12

How do you know it's because of covid? It may be part of her job description. I open all the windows at home daily, ventilating the house is good practice. Anyway even if it is for covid you are being unreasonable u have no idea of her health status you sound really selfish and grumpy

ImStillMe · 17/11/2022 22:20

She told me she opens them because of Covid.

SophiaLarsen · 17/11/2022 22:22

Good for her. Writing as someone currently laid up with Covid, she's right to do this and it's the best way to tackle it. Wear layers.

Nanny67 · 17/11/2022 22:24

Covid hasn't finished. I tested positive yesterday and feel rough 🥵

Earwegoagain · 17/11/2022 22:25

Surely she has just as much right as you do as it’s her work place too? Just because she is employed to clean doesn’t make her role lesser than yours. But maybe you both could come to a compromise.

rwalker · 17/11/2022 22:27

Just shut them in front of her

QuestionableMouse · 17/11/2022 22:28

You're being unreasonable.

Covid isn't going anywhere and there's a bloody awful cold going round too that's absolutely flattened me.

You don't get to dictate her comfort levels.

How?
Would you REALLY just walk into someone’s office and open the window?
She would only be in the office for a short while when she cleans- it’s rude of her to open the window in someone else’s space and expect them to keep it that way

humancalculator · 17/11/2022 22:34

Opening windows a couple of times a day for 15 minutes or so is a healthy thing to do, Covid or no Covid. Some rental leases in Germany and Austria, maybe elsewhere, even have a provision requiring you to do so. YABU.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/11/2022 22:36

Is it your office as in only you work in it, or an open plan office but you’re the first in?

ImStillMe · 17/11/2022 22:58

It's small and open plan and we work shifts with some overlap

Rarrrarrrarrbumdiay · 17/11/2022 23:05

Just say, listen Cleaner, you are beneath me, and I don't care about you and your desire to stay healthy and covid free. It doesn't trump my desire to have the windows closed. It really upsets me that you, a cleaner, have the audacity to come into my office and open the windows especially after the incident the other day when I closed the windows and informed you that I open them later. You even dared to give me a dirty look. So take this as your first and last warning....don't you dare open the windows again woman. I've told you and that is that.

Except you won't will you lol you think this though. Don't you?!

MatildaTheCat · 17/11/2022 23:11

Do you get paid if you are sick, OP? Your office cleaner probably doesn’t. She is subject to all of the germs in all of the offices and all of the transport etc that she/he has to access every single day in order to earn her minimum wage.

Let her open the window (as she has been advised by her employer in lieu of sick pay) and pop on an extra jumper.

QuiteSomeTime · 17/11/2022 23:15

The very idea of a cleaner answering back makes me feel sick. Have her fired

Rarrrarrrarrbumdiay · 17/11/2022 23:18

@QuiteSomeTime I need to know if you are serious.

KrisAkabusi · 17/11/2022 23:22

Why do you think she doesn't do it to anyone else?

boozebarge · 17/11/2022 23:30

@Rarrrarrrarrbumdiay 😆😂 well said! Know your place, cleaning individual…

PS love the username. Any chance it's Bellowhead related?

@Redhop
