Rise in Council tax...

Following on from the lovely budget 🙄 it states that local governments can now raise Council Tax without a referendum.

I'd like to think it doesn't mean they will, but we all know its going to happen.
As an example for Band D, they said it would mean an extra £100 on top of what we pay now - am I right in thinking that is per year, and not per month?

Yep the council tax is a yearly charge, broken down into monthly payments, so the increase is on the total amount.

Hope so, feel like get bugger all for what pay, other than decreased refuse pick up in my area, library closed, activity centre closed, no council funded kids clubs. Considering moving from our wee village to more urban area, loads of council funded things. Free school holidays activities, free gym, brand new library. Council boasts about all the great stuff they do but it's only available to some areas!

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 thank you. I thought it would be yearly, but judging on how things are at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if it was monthly!

No problem. I do know what you mean tho!

@Bloomingloveacurry

they need to raise it to fix the pot holes alone but more importanlty we need to redesign the whole of local government to be more like the Swiss model and remove our crazy contracting out process that clearly just does not work atall!

Everyone focusses on potholes and bin collections, but the majority of council spending is on education and social care. It's the social care that is crippling most councils. They have to spend more and more on it each year but can only increase council tax income by 5%.
